When Barack Obama won the 2008 presidential election, he also won a long-running debate with his wife, Michelle. Contrary to her fears, politics now seemed like a worthwhile, even noble pursuit. Together they planned a White House life that would be as normal and sane as possible. Then they moved in. Filled with riveting detail and insight into their partnership, emotions, and personalities, and written with a keen eye for the ironies of public life, The Obamas is an intimate portrait that will surprise even listeners who thought they knew the President and First Lady.

What made the experience of listening to The Obamas the most enjoyable?

I loved the inside look into the Obama White House.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Obamas?

While this doesn't sound thrilling, the inner workings of the staff meetings and especially one meeting where Robert Gibbs had a - shall we say expletive not deleted moment.

Have you listened to any of Robin Miles???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, to my knowledge heard her before, but she was perfect.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There was so much, but Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize was memorable.

Beyond memoir, this guidebook offers practical advice on everything from "How to Be the Black Friend" to "How to Be the (Next) Black President" to "How to Celebrate Black History Month". This is a humorous, intelligent, and audacious guide that challenges and satirizes the so-called experts, purists, and racists who purport to speak for all black people. With honest storytelling and biting wit, Baratunde plots a path not just to blackness, but one open to anyone interested in simply "how to be".

New York Times best-selling author Carl Weber and award-winning novelist Eric Pete team up to deliver the first in a much-anticipated new trilogy. The Family Business features two times the heat, two times the fun, and two times the drama as the members of an unforgettable family (not to mention their lovers and hangers-on) find their way in and out of trouble. As their many fans will attest, Weber and Pete share a talent for penning juicy fiction that their audience can’t get enough of.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

While I did at least listen to the whole book, I found it lacking in moral complexity and character development compared to Mr. Weber's other fine novels. I would not recommend this book to a friend.

Has The Family Business turned you off from other books in this genre?

If I liked books about thugs, violence and drug dealers I'd be fine.

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

I think the narrator's of all of Mr. Weber's books are excellent.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No.

The majestic beauty of the Italian Alps at the turn of the 20th century is the setting of the first meeting of Enza, a practical beauty, and Ciro, a strapping mountain boy. When Ciro catches the local priest in a scandal, he is banished and sent to hide in America. Soon Enza's family faces disaster and she, too, is forced to go to America. Unbeknownst to each other, they both build fledgling lives in America. Ciro masters shoemaking and Enza takes a factory job until fate intervenes and reunites them. But it is too late....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have liked this authors books in the past, and bought this one thinking it was going to have comparable narration. I did not pre-listen to a sample like I usually do to see if I like the reader. My mistake.

What was most disappointing about Adriana Trigiani???s story?

I could not get into the story for listening to the author read. I had to stop listening very soon.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

In my opinion, authors do not always do a good job of reading their own books. Someone should discourage them from doing this.
