It's great to have Mitch Rapp back on the job...I mean Vince Flynn. Great book, hard to put down. Feels like part one of a two-parter, so I am really looking forward to the next in the series.
Special mention for the narrator - love his voice acting, especially for the character of Stan Hurley. I am not sure if the voice created the mental picture of Stan that I have, or whether the voice matched the picture I had, but it's perfect.
I'm a Glenn Beck fan - have most of his books, love his radio show, etc.. This is awful. The actress reading the novel and acting the parts is terrible. The plot is laughable. It might as well have been called The Vagina Monologue, but that title is already taken. This may be the most evil thing brought about by Agenda 21, which I do view as a threat to the United States. Skip it.
After the stinker that was _I am Charlotte Simmons_, _Back to Blood_ is a welcome return of the Tom Wolfe fans of good writing love.
Too much of the "PUMP PUMP PUMP, GRIND GRIND GRIND, SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY, YADA YADA YADA" sex scenes and whoever told him - a) police officers still carry revolvers and b) Glock makes revolvers - should be beaten to death with a bag of used typewriter ribbons, but otherwise good stuff. Very compelling until the end.
My biggest criticism is the abrupt ending - didn't feel like anything was really resolved. He finally has characters that are interesting and empathetic - as opposed to the Charlotte Simmons crowd - and they were just abandoned. It's the literary equivalent of _The Sopranos_.
If this is Tom Wolfe's last book, it's a nice exit from the stage, but he will still be better remembered for earlier works.
Covers pathologies that have been passed down through generations from European Whites to Southern Whites to Southern Blacks.
What an amazing man. The fact that he authorized this, told the author not to hold back and provided a list of both friends and enemies to interview speaks volumes - and well - of him. While I favor an open environment for computing, I do agree Apple's closed environment is viable. The only fault: since I do audio books, I think the actor they hired to read it should know how to pronounce Apple's flagship operating system. It's not "OS X" like it is written: it's pronounced "OS Ten."
Despite what you may think considering the subject matter, it's not very technical, and it is hard to put down.
