"This is a great series."
I took a chance trying out a new author when I got this book, and I am so happy that I did. The whole series is good. I like the fantasy and paranormal genre, but I've never been big on werewolves. This series changed my mind. If you like the Sookie series by Charlaine Harris, give this one a shot. The reader is EXCELLENT! Her voices are amazing.
"Not my kind of humor"
Allow me to say that this was my first Christopher Moore book. I fully realize this book is supposed to be comedic in nature from start to finish; I found it anything but. I prefer my satire less exaggerated.
The story was snooze-worthy most of the time and largely seemed to be a retelling of what happened in the previous two books. I cringed every time Abby Normal's narration started, and I had to force myself to finish this book. Part of my problem was that I started with this book. Apparently, I should have tried the others first, but I didn't realize this was a series until it was too late. Obviously, it does not work well as a stand-alone story. If you like sarcasm so thick you could Spackle your walls with it, this book may very well be for you.
"Good Series"
I really like this series; entertaining and fun. This one is a little darker than the first two. Mercy is a a great heroine.
The reader is fantastic!
"I love these books!"
These books are so funny, and the reader is very good. Very entertaining!
"Hilarious!"
I bought this one on a whim thinking that it could be fun, and I was not disappointed. Even the reader's accent is pitch perfect. Entertaining all the way through, and I've just recommended it to my sister. I just picked up the next two. I can't wait to listen.
"Entertaining Series"
I really love Sookie. These books are great. I've hooked my sister and my best friend on them as well. The reader for this series is very good on most of the books. This series is one that I will reread.
"Great Series"
I love this series by Garth Nix, and Lirael is great. I wish this had been around when I was younger. The story is griping, very suspenseful in some places which keeps you glued to your ipod. And as always, Tim Curry is a fantastic reader.
"Fantastic from Start to Finish"
I have always loved Alice, but this is a great version to listen to over and over. The reader is great, and the story is a classic. I highly recommend this for everyone!
"Bad Narration"
I would probably rate this book higher if the reader didn't suck so badly. His reading style is choppy and voices are strange to say the least. If you get this book, buy it for the story and not the entertainment.
"Subtle, well-written triump"
The narrator is great, but the story is even better. When my friend first recommended this series to me, I was dubious. This really did not seem like the kind of book I would enjoy, but I was mistaken. George R. R. Martin is a great writer, and this story has interesting characters with depth and honesty despite their misogynistic undertones. This book is full of subplots that will keep you guessing, villains that will you love to hate, and unsung heroes that will have you on the edge of your seat.
