Police chief Cameron McDonald has lived in idyllic Wheelock, Massachusetts for most of his life, as has his beloved wife Allie. Their comfortable lives are thrown into tumult, however, when Cam's distant cousin Jamie arrives in town along with his wife's dead body. Jamie admits to the murder - a mercy killing to end the pain caused by a ravaging cancer. And now Cam is torn by his oath to uphold justice and his family obligations as chief of the Scottish McDonald clan.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I did not enjoy the way the author switched between the storylines and would have preferred better transitioning among them.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For the most part the love triangle portion of the book was fairly predictable but I was very interested in the developing storyline regarding the mercy killing and the jury verdict.

Did Alyssa Bresnahan do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She did an adequate job with the accent but I prefer more definition between the male and female characters.

Do you think Mercy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, I'm not that interested in the characters involved.

    Any additional comments?

I will try another Picoult book and hope this book does not reflect her usual writing style.

Would you consider the audio edition of As the Crow Flies to be better than the print version?

I have previously read all the hardcover versions of the series from my local library, but was unable to quickly obtain As the Crow Flies and opted to try the audio version, which was very enjoyable.

It was whispered all through London society that he was a murderer, that he'd spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

Would you try another book from Jennifer Ashley and/or Angela Dawe?

I would try another Jennifer Ashley book but I will avoid Angela Dawe as a reader

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

    The story dragged in places

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe’s performance?

She is unable to do masculine voices and her interpretation of Ian Mackenzie's dialogue left me with the feeling that I should have read the book instead.

Could you see The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No
