Roger Torraway watched in horror as the monster lurched, toppled over and died. Project Man Plus had gone suddenly and drastically wrong. The race to colonize Mars was too important, too costly, and America was already too committed, for plans to be scrapped. They would have to make a new Martian. And Roger Torraway was it, candidate for the endless surgery, operation after painful operation, that would enable him to survive on that faraway planet.

Insurance investigator Brent Calloway may be too hard-boiled to crack a smile, but he’ll go to any length to crack a case. As tough, terse and tireless as insurance man Edward G. Robinson in Double Indemnity, Calloway’s about to go to extremes to see to it that one ship makes it safely from Hawaii to the mainland. Going undercover and posing as ruthless killer Spike O’Brien, Calloway quickly discovers that on this ship nothing is what it seems, and no one can be trusted. With so much insurance money at stake, and the whole crew apparently in on the scam, this could end up being a voyage to the bottom of the sea.

Johnny Brice is a hotheaded, hard-working "picture-chaser" for the newsreels. He loves to fly into the mouth of danger (whether forest fire, shipwreck, or flood), get the story first, shoot it, and send the film back fast so that it can be turned into newsreels for theatres all across America. He's the best there ever was as a "top dog" reporter... up till the day he inadvertently saves the life of a golden-haired girl he pulls out of the ocean while covering a ship burning at sea.

Jack London was born a working-class, fatherless San Franciscan in 1876. In his youth, he was a boundlessly energetic adventurer on the bustling west coast—by and by playing the role of hobo, sailor, and oyster pirate. From his vantage point at the margins of Gilded Age America, he witnessed such iniquity and abuses that he became a life long socialist and advocate for reform. Award-winning western historian James L. Haley paints a vivid portrait of London—adventurer, social reformer, and the most well-known American writer of his generation.

Starting with Captain Amos January, who quickly loses it, and then the others who fought, schemed, and killed to get it, we travel around the complex, decadent, brawling, mongrelized, interstellar human civilization that the artifact might save or destroy. Collectors want the Dancer, pirates take it, rulers crave it, and all will kill, if necessary, to get it. This is a thrilling yarn of love, revolution, music, and mystery, and it ends, as all great stories do, with shock and a beginning.

Would you try another book from Michael Flynn and/or Stefan Rudnicki?

Love Stefan Rudnicki, great narrator, but Michael Flynn, this is the second book I've gotten from him and it is mediocre at best. Little dialogue, weak story, mediocre science. I usually support my Irish Brothers, however, this dude just is not that good. I am a Science fiction writer, and this guy does a lot of things that are just not that entertaining.

What could Michael Flynn have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Oh....................I don't know, put in more dialogue, used words that did not smack of amateurism. Maybe, if he had actual good science to back up the scenes in the book. I am not impressed at all, he writes like Edgar Rice Boroughs, all description and little dialogue to move the story along. Crap I'm a better writer than he is, and that is not saying much.

What does Stefan Rudnicki bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Rudnicki is a master, I have heard him on most of Ben Bova's work, "The Planet series, etc. I enjoy Bova's work immensely, however Bova is not quite Heinlein, and Flynn is about half as good Bova, and that is being generous! I wish I could give Mr. Flynn a better review. Read the first chapter of James Joyce's Ulysses, and you will see what a GREAT Irish writer can do!

Was The January Dancer worth the listening time?

No, I am deeply saddened to say I wish that it were, I will have my priest say a prayer for poor Mr. Flynn.

    Any additional comments?

I don't know what the bloody problem with My. Flynn is but, I wish he were better. I had a bad time with his other works too.

Is Greed good? The future of Earth and all of mankind may hang on that one question. And George Marquis Lorrilard—a space age ace-pilot, adventurer and fortune-hunter to rival Hans Solo of Star Wars—is just the man to answer it. The world is divided between Asia and the United Continents—two great super powers locked in eternal warfare. But the balance of power is about to shift in Asia’s favor. They have developed a top-secret weapon—the cohesion projector–that could lead to annihilation on an unprecedented scale.

That is Fanner Marston’s mantra—his reason for being—and while he knows a little about the first and a lot about the second, he may well be on the verge of learning everything there is to know about the third. Power. He may, in fact, be about to uncover the key to gaining absolute control over the entire universe. The only problem is, Fanner is certifiably insane—a crazed Peter Lorre on a power trip.
