Young, pregnant Fawn Bluefield has just fled her family's farm to the city of Glassforge, where she encounters a patrol of the enigmatic soldier-sorcerers known as Lakewalkers. Fawn has heard stories about the Lakewalkers, who are wandering necromancers with no permanent homes and no possessions except the clothes they wear and the mysterious knives they carry. What she does not know is that the Lakewalkers are engaged in a perilous campaign against inhuman and immortal magical entities known as "malices".

Fascinating, engrossing and well written. Couldn't wait to complete the series. Plenty of room for further stories, both before and after this series. The only downer... the age difference. Pretty unbelievable and seemingly unnecessary.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    "One of the Best"
    Overall

The storyline is intriguing and fascinating, but the clincher is the narration by Davina Porter. Her accents are amazing.

A bit offputting were the so very numerous explicit sexual encounters. Makes one wonder if Diana Gabaldon is in fact a male as it would seem to appeal to the male ego that a woman, forced to marry a stranger, would initiate oral sex as their first married act together. Yup. To also not object to but apparently enjoy his smelly sweaty body makes her very unbelievable or perhaps British. They aren't too fond of showers?

Anyway, sexual encounters aside, the story was great, the literary tension wonderful and the characters very full. Highly recommend, but not to any of my younger relatives. Too much sex.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

    "Fascinating & enthralling read"
    Overall

I was first drawn after having listened to The Host, but I wasn't prepared for the superb quality of Twilight. In a way, it was a problem to listen to it, as unlike with other books, I was unable to do anything but concentrate fully on the wonderful constructs and beautiful & emotive descriptions throughout. I couldn't work at anything, but had to just listen, enthralled. So much for multi tasking. A superb listen. It won't disappoint.

    Overall

Once the groundwork was laid this novel was so gripping, moving, intriguing, thought provoking. I hated having to stop listening to sleep. The language, imagery, complexity of description, depth of emotion was amazing. What an imagination and what moral and ethical issues! The best novel I have read/heard in years and Kate Reading narrated to perfection. I still can't stop thinking about the characters. They were so well defined. I want more.
