I was leary, the publisher's blurb
enough to arouse my curiosity in
    what this author could produce
as a good mystery with such a small group.of characters in a tight story line. looking back now, the mystery will hold the reader's interest as the plot twists
surprise. Think of this as a snow globe, another version of The Group, the movie with Candace Bergen.

We've heard it said that there is no justice in this world. But what if there really was? What if the souls of murdered children were able to briefly return, inhabit adult bodies, and wreak revenge on the monstrous killers who stole their lives? Such is the unthinkable mystery confronting ex-NYPD detective Willow Wylde, fresh out of rehab and finally able to find a job running a Cold Case squad in suburban Detroit. When the two rookie cops assigned to him take an obsessive interest in a decades-old disappearance of a brother and sister, Willow begins to suspect something out of the ordinary is afoot.

I've never read a book like this but the premise intrigued me. I ignored a lot of it -- the train, milk and cookies, people with more than one name for instance. murdered children returning to settle the score with the men who killed them. An intelligent debate in very interesting form.

An ambitious and sharp-witted clinical psychiatrist turns detective when one of her patients comes under investigation for a series of brutal murders - is she a psychopath or a victim herself? Brilliant psychiatric resident Dr. Kim Patterson has one major flaw: She is too committed to her patients. Her willingness to break the rules and use unconventional methods to help her patients heal has already gotten her thrown out of several hospitals. And when Scarlett Hascall is brought into the psychiatric ward, Kim can't resist getting involved.

The premise was promising but th he book sagged then dragged.
It offered 2 distinct threads #1)
a psychiatric Resident, a rebel with a cause and #2) the possession of the living by themurdered. The story spins far and gets wilder at each turn, costing th he,readers' chances of staying tuned in and interested.
I coasted through the last part of the book,. The author has good ideas for detective books. I hope to see more , just needs more practice and a decent editor.

#3 It is built with a good story idea.
#4 The reader needs more polish
#5. Readers of many mysteries will note this is a beginning writer's work anf not wish to read it. Fair enough.

The old village mystery created here for readers who might enjoy the genre and for younger readers who may have never read one.
And just as I was fooled by A. Christie's Miss Marple decades ago, so did I miss the murderer in this book. What fun!

Note to self: books set in northern climes should not be listened to if the story is in winter.
    This mystery is overly long.
I liked the first half of the book. But once it bogged down in detail I could not rekindle my interest.
I learned that a shoot out with many characters is just a lot of keyboarding. I think we are in line for a sequel. I may not buy it.

The narrator earns 5 stars. The author only 4 :-) If right handed
person were trying to live her life as a person who is left handed. left hand, this might describe how quietly wrong the star of our little drama comes across. It quickly grows fascinating. I did feel mired down, briefly, at a scene that threatened to grow grim but I FF'D through it and it was fine.
so, low on violence, high on listening pleasure, fine characters.
OH, I did not understand the last short bit of The End. Have fun. A very good book.
