Great for the business commuter. Very professionally done. Sometimes topics apply narrowly, such as to sales, or marketing, or CEOs, but I still find them interesting and hope to be able to apply much of the info I learn someday. Kind of like taking an MBA class on the way to work.

  • Freakonomics: Revised Edition

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner
    • Narrated By Stephen J. Dubner

Steven D. Levitt is not a typical economist. He is a much-heralded scholar who studies the riddles of everyday life, from cheating and crime to sports and child-rearing, and whose conclusions turn the conventional wisdom on its head. Thus the new field of study contained in this audiobook: Freakonomics. Levitt and co-author Stephen J. Dubner show that economics is, at root, the study of incentives: how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Freakonomics?

Discovery that realtors wait 10 days longer to sell their house & get a 3% increase in price was especially eye-opening.

    Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the opportunity to hear how the author finds ways to make data speak to issues and help answer improtant questions like whether the sale of guns should be more restricted.

  • The Message: The New Testament in Contemporary Language

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Eugene H. Peterson
    • Narrated By Kelly Ryan Dolan, Carol Nix

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need to be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.

    "Repetitive Inflections"

I like the way the Message flows, and challenges you to look at Scripture & its stories with a fresh ear. However, superficially, I found the narrator's inflections not so fresh, but redundant, making it monotonous after the first 45 minutes or so. I'd hate for this to hinder someone from hearing The Message and its life-changing truths, and its introduction to the man, yet God named Jesus, but I'm hoping to find the Bible on audible that makes me want to come back to it with more enthusiasm. Hearing scripture in general is a GREAT way to learn, remember, and incorporate it into daily life.
