Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret - something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive....

The story was extremely slow for the first 3/4 of the book, but it did start to pick up during the final 2 hours. It was not as enjoyable as I'd hoped.

Acclaimed author Michael J. Sullivan created instant best sellers with his spellbinding Riyria Revelations series. This first volume introduces Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, two enterprising thieves who end up running for their lives when they’re framed for the death of the king. Trapped in a conspiracy bigger than they can imagine, their only hope is unraveling an ancient mystery - before it’s too late.

I became a fan of the 'odd couple' (Royce Melbourne and Hadrian Blackwater) the instant I listened to this first book in the Riyria Revelations series. Both the main and supporting characters are all so colorful and interesting that I became lost in their world, and the narrator really brings them to life. Be aware that this story starts after Royce and Hadrian were already partners and good friends. If you prefer your story line more linear, you may want to first listen to the two book prequel series (The Riyria Chronicles) which starts at the beginning of their friendship. How ever you choose to listen, you won't be disappointed!

In 1918, after four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia to take a job as the lighthouse keeper on remote Janus Rock. This is a beautifully written story of choices and consequences. It does not gloss over difficult situations, and left me pondering what I would have done in the same circumstance. A truly excellent book!

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

    Story

I had not heard of this book until my book club selected it as our next read. I WISH that I had bothered to listen to the sample before purchasing. I found the the narrator's sorority/valley girl voice to be extremely distracting and annoying. So annoying that I couldn't wait for it to be over. I will not bother listening to the last two books.

The story was okay and the writing was fine but the story lacked depth. I was not drawn in and didn't care about the characters. On a positive note, the sex scenes were both spicy and tastefulI. However, in the end I could not relate to the the main character (a 21 year old virgin) and would not recommend for mature women (Try the Outlander series instead).

In the end I didn't get what all of the hype is about. Zane blazed this trail a LONG time ago with Addicted.

Soon it's just Pi, the tiger, and the vast Pacific Ocean - for 227 days. Pi's fear, knowledge, and cunning keep him alive until they reach the coast of Mexico, where the tiger disappears into the jungle.

Eerie, dreamlike, set in a world that is weirdly related to our own, The Gunslinger introduces Roland Deschain of Gilead, of In-World that was, as he pursues his enigmatic antagonist to the mountains that separate the desert from the Western Sea in the first volume of The Dark Tower series. Roland, the last gunslinger, is a solitary figure, perhaps accursed, who with a strange single-mindedness traverses an exhausted, almost timeless landscape of good and evil.

I took a chance and purchased The Gunslinger after listening to 11-22-63 and Under the Dome (both excellent!). I was not drawn into the story line or the characters of The Gunslinger. The writing is very good, but the story was just never grabbed me. I listened to about 80% of the story but was so bored I just gave up without making it to the end.

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

I was not sure what to expect, from a story told from the perspective of a dog, but was pleasantly surprised. The storyline was engaging and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dog lovers will be particularly amused, but it is a great read for anyone.
