Can't say enough great things about this book. First of all, this is one of those books that is better in audiobook. The book is laid out in a question and answer format, which is narrated by two different people and done very well. The content of this book is great for anyone looking to make positive changes in their life or seek happiness. This book gives helpful tips on how to be happy and get the most out of life in ways that seem manageable.
While reading this I wrote down a lot of quotes and put them on my mirror as daily inspiration. One I can remember..."Genuine change doesn't happen over night"
Like I said, great for anyone seeking self improvement, but I also think that if everyone would listen to this book and implement changes into their lives, the world would be a better place.
Starting with you! :)
Murder on the Nile is a wonderful story, brought to life by David Suchet. I've watched so many of the tv episodes with him, it was wonderful to hear Poirot as I know him.
I am listening to another Poirot story now on audible, with a different narrator, and it just isn't quite the same!
I think as far as I saw this is the only one where he is narrating, so I hope there are more to come!
Joyland was my first Stephen King novel, and I was not disappointed. I have heard his other novels are very scary, so I wasn't sure about this one, but it really wasn't scary at all. I personally fell in love with the protagonist, his character is what makes the story.
I am honestly not even sure exactly what quality this book had that made it come together so well, but I loved it and recommend it!
As soon as I read the description of this book, I knew I was going to like it. I loved Rachel Joyce's easy writing style; it seemed to match Harold's slow walking pace.
It ususally takes me a long time to finish an Audiobook, but something about this one made me want to listen for hours on end. I finished it in three days.
However, I am not sure if it is that I listened to this almost non-stop, but towards the end I was starting to get a little bored with it.
But for the most part this book was very entertaining and almost had a soothing quality about it. That is what I personally like to read. Some books have an urgent feeling behind them, but not this one! It makes you feel like you have all the time in the world.
I read this book several years ago and remember it being very funny, so when I was in need of a good laugh I decided to give it a try again to see if it was as funny as I remembered.
It did not disappoint! Very good narration as well!
I recommend this book to all women for sure :)
Wow this was a great read! So unique and enchanting. I feel there has always been something mysterious and intriguing about circuses, but this book takes that feeling to a whole new level! I loved it so much I ordered it for my mom to read too. The detail is so rich. If you are a fan of fantasy there is no way you won't enjoy this book!
The narration was also superbly done.
I would absolutely love to see someone like Peter Jackson make this into a movie!!
I first heard of this book from my brother and was instantly intrigued years ago. When I saw it on audible I decided to try it.
I am very open to learning about different philosophies and religions and the tao of pooh was a very clever and interesting twist to doing so.
Since I didn't know anything about taosim prior to reading this I couldn't say if Hoff's explanations of taoist concepts were spot on, but from what it seems like, the Pooh stories were the perfect analogy for it.
I would recommend this to a friend.
So funny, great narration.
Halfway through this book I realized I have been missing out not listening to books by comedians and put 10 similar titles in my wish list.
What I really liked about this book was getting a behind the scenes look into Tina's life... what was really happening during her SNL impersonations of Sarah Palin...the struggles and triumphs of 30 rock.... plus much much more!
If you are a fan of Tina this is a must read!!
I am starting to think I must have a must different taste than the typical Audible listener, because this is another case where I took the advice of fellow members (rave reviews) and was disappointed.
Don't get me wrong this is far from the worst book I have ever read or will ever read. It started out very strong... so strong that I ordered it for my mom as a mothers day gift! How could it fail? A bestseller in its time (more than Dickens) and still a classic favorite today.
But for me I found myself zoning out constantly (and happily so to help the time pass by). And never ending story plots.
The idea behind this story was strong, but for me the author was very long winded and could have made this a much shorter (and therefore enjoyable story).
One thing I will say about this book is that the author spares no detail! So if you like a book where there is no summarization of events and every scene every conversation is detailed move by move, then you will love it!
I chose this book after I saw it was Audible's highest rated book of 2011 (or something like that I can't remember now)
This book in interesting for many reasons, but I won't say it is my favorite book or the best book I have ever read.
This is the first Stephen King book I have ever read and I now know why he is considered such a genius in the world of fiction novels. This book really is a piece of art. It spans several decades, includes so much accurate history, so much imagination and all carefully planned and executed so that it all flowed together. George and Sadie are great characters that anyone could fall in love with.
Amazing imagery-- This must be what King is most famous for... it isn't all books where you get such a strong mental image of what is happening. Plus it was set in an era where vivid imagery is gladly welcomed: the late 50s and 60s. I got to learn so much about that time period including that I had never considered before and got a real feel for what things must have been like back then. He painted such a care free and innocent picture of the time it often left me yearning for a chance to visit that era myself. Where poodle skirts and swing dancing were the norm, where no one worried about terrorism and everyone left their doors unlocked. However, King did make sure to point out the shortcomings of the time (racial integration, hospitals, no cell phones, etc).
So despite all the positives this book had to offer, it wasn't a super page turner until the very end of what I consider a very lengthy book. A lot of it (though it had great imagery all the way through) just kind of dragged along, and I just wanted to fast forward through the mundane details and get to the action! I mean every detail in the end of course added to the story as a whole, but it was almost like King felt like he had to go super into detail of every situation to make the whole story as believable and cohesive as possible... which is TRUE, but it was also kind of overkill for me!
But I would still recommend this book to anyone who is kind of nostalgic of the past, enjoys stories about time travel and alternate possibilities.
This book definitely has a bigger message behind it and really demonstrates how fragile and beautiful life really is! Every action has a chain reaction and often we are unaware of how our actions will affect the future until it is too late. A cautionary tale to some degree!
Loved this book, could relate to it so personally and on so many levels.
I didn't review this book immediately after reading it and now can't remember super specifics about it and I don't think my words could do it justice now!
However I will say that I would recommend this book to any introspective person who often thinks about life at a deeper level and likes examining their own emotions.
This book says so much about life and the many relationships we form as well as the range of emotions we go through in life and in love, during high and low moments.
Definitely a great book that I would recommended and will read again in the future!
