The narration of the story was wonderful, and I like the fact that though this story was a relatively light read, there is still a lot of content to think about after the story ends. I especially liked the themes of love, revenge and reconciliation that the author addresses in this book.
I really liked this book. I thought with it being almost 27 hour long that it would drag. Howeber, between the narrator and the plot itself, I thoroughly got into this story. Parts made me laugh, and parts made me cry. I think that is a good sign that the author is really capable.
I have to say I absolutely loved this story, and immediately got the 2nd, 34d, and then the 4th book. I have fallen in love with some of the characters, and I think there are some great world building in this book. the narrator is really good as well, because she sounds like she enjoys reading the books.
I was happy with the return of Laural Merlington as the narrator, since she read most of the series in the first place. This short story reminded me of why I started listening to the series in the first place. I was very happy with this story.
Sometimes narators can make or break a story, and I have to say that although I was happy to know more about how Adam and Ellie got together, the narrator experience was not one I particularly enjoyed. Her voice sounded pretty flat to me.
I really liked this story. It totally gave me the shivers all the way through it. I have a twin sister, and I called her afterwards to tell her about the twins in this story. I think it was just the right length for the story. I am sometimes reluctant to get short stories because I am afraid the plot won't be resolved. However, that isn't the case with this story.
the only major bummer about these books is that they come out once a year. I really wish there could be two books a year from Elantra.
Well, Kaylen has grown a lot since the first book, and she still has a long way to go. I think the one thing that astounds me is that given all the death and short lives around her, Kaylen hasn't just said to herself: look, I'm going to decide on who I love, admit it to myself and to him, and go for it because life's too short. But in thinking about that, it's probably not a Kaylen sort of move. I did miss the dragons, but loved getting to know more about the Barani.
The one thing that drives me a little nuts about the series is the constant switching of narrators. this one definitely took me some time to get used to, although I do think he did his homework with the Carpathian pronunciations. It does help lead up to Skylar and Dimitri's story, so I would read this one first definitely. And I can't say I was bored at all during the hours I listened to it.
I was worried I wouldn't like the book, because you pretty much know who the suspect is from the very beginning of the book. And man, I could picture something like that happening. I think what I love most about these books, and it has been reconfirmed in my brain, is just seeing how the characters continue to grow throughout the books. I especially loved the very ending scene with the letter; it mademe cry good tears.
Granted, Maurice was supposed to be hooked by it, but I could totally picture not being awake and grabbing the first thing you can to defend yourself. And so I began my thorough enjoyment of this first book in the Monster Haven series, where things that might look frightening aren't, and things that seem harmless can be.
This book had a lot of twists and turns in the ;ot I could never have foreseen. I also laughed even more while listening to this book than I have the previous two books. I look forward to discovering even more about Zoey
