Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

What did you love best about Sycamore Row?

Consistent with Grisham's best novels...excellent character development, story,& ending.

What other book might you compare Sycamore Row to and why?

The Last Juror. Uncertain ending. Wonderfully precise explanation of the central event of wealthy suicide victim leaving his wealth to his black (African American) house keeper & care taker in a holographic will.

Have you listened to any of Michael Beck’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not. He has the best ability & believability of character change that I have heard ! He is truly gifted in this area.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes

    Any additional comments?

Well worth the time & cost !

91 year-old Ira Levinson is kept concious after a car wreck by visions of his late wife, Ruth, who recounts stories of their lifetime together. A few miles away, at a local rodeo, Sophia Danko, a senior at Wake Forest, meets a young cowboy named Luke. Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond despair, beyond death, to the farthest reaches of the human heart.

    Hendie says: "I Understand!"

What made the experience of listening to The Longest Ride the most enjoyable?

The author weaves two stories into one. Listening to the "old",Ira & Ruth, & the "new"/young , Luke & Sophia, is endearing.

What did you like best about this story?

The devotion/loyalty of Ira & Ruth to each other is beautifully described/developed and is inspirational.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The art auction in which the amateur portrait of Ruth is bid for only by Luke which in turn shocks every bidder, including Luke, when this purchase awards the bidder the entire art collection.

If you could rename The Longest Ride, what would you call it?

    The Love Stories

    Any additional comments?

Excellent read by an author who does his historical & geographical homework !

Where does Super Immunity rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My ranking is 5 stars, but 2 stars goes to the reader. Disappointed by the reader.

What did you like best about this story?

The detailed information & clear explanations

How did the narrator detract from the book?

He greatly distracted from this excellent book. He lacked the passion of the author & had gross mispronunciations of hundreds of essential words.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but difficult to absorb with one reading/listening.

    Any additional comments?

The reader/narrator diminished from easy understanding of many critical explanations by his mispronunciations. I was listening & learning from a medical science background.

Every Wednesday, Gretchen Reynolds singlehandedly influences how millions of Americans work out. In her Phys Ed column for The New York Times, she debunks myths, spurs conversation, and creates arguments among her readers by questioning widely held beliefs about exercise. Expanding upon her popular columns, Reynolds tackles the questions we all have and (sometimes) ask about exercise.

If you could sum up The First 20 Minutes in three words, what would they be?

The research on exercise physiology has never been summarized so well before. Gretchen Reynolds does an outstanding job of presenting the research in an especially helpful manner. I am a medical doctor & runner who finds her writing enlightening & refreshing, as well as inspiring.

She is comprehensive, yet summarizes exercise physiology research in an extremely helpful manner.

What does Karen Saltus bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She reads beautifully with appropriate emphasis in her voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It would need to be a documentary. "Even very little exercise preserves the brain, as well as the entire body."

    Any additional comments?
