I would like to start this review by saying, I am only halfway through the book right now. The story line seems good just as I expected, but unfortunately, the narration could use a little work. I recently discovered that this same book is available on audible with narration by Will Patton, so buy that addition, I'm sure it is much better. In this edition, the narrator makes one of the main characters sound incredibly stupid, which may not sound that bad, until you hear it. It keeps throwing me off every time the guy says something, it's almost agonizing. As for the other edition, Will Patton may be one of the most skilled narrators alive, and he has a whimsical way of delivering The story. So that being said, it's too late for me, but not for you. Enjoy the book...just not this one.
It was really hard to get into the story on account of the narrators voice, he sounded almost like an announcer for a very boring game. But after a couple hours the story became quite interesting. I found that the main story wasn't even about the strangler case, but more about police corruption and its ties to the mafia. The characters left a good impression and the ending was surprising so all in all it was good, but I would certainly recommend "Defending Jacob" way before I would recommend this book.
... And Will Patton should play Sun Holland.
Not to sound like a member of the heard, but this story is Amazing ;)
There is certainly a recognition of characters from prior series, but I think that is part of the magic. The flow of the story blends perfectly with the writers in-depth description of this flawless and surprising tale from the past. Though it is fiction, I found myself googling the main characters to try and see where their story ends.
To anybody ready to pass on this novel because of its short length, Don't you dare! This is a must hear. A captivating, one- sitting, listen with a satisfying finish.
Thank you JLB.
Wow!! Not scary but still a little bit of spookiness. I don't know why but I always expect Stephen King to deliver a terrifying horror, this one had all the panic and intensity of a horror but ended up being just a really great story, with a few hints of creepy tossed in. I wanted this book to go on forever, i wanted to live there, and both my wife and I could not stop talking about it in between listens. The story could have gone in any number of directions at any given time and I found myself genuinely concerned as to which direction it would take. As usual, the author satisfied and I am truly heart- broken that I have to find something else to listen to. Bravo.
The best part about the jaywalker series, in my opinion, is that it is so easy to get into. As always I was immediately captivated and I just wanted to keep listening until it was over. Though the author seems to put the main character up on a pedestal, the story always delivers and Again, I found myself almost brought to tears by the compelling and theatrical ending of the case. The jaywalker series also never seems to be overly complex, and i still never find myself bored of the story. I have listened to "Overkill", "Guilty As Sin" and have read the print version of "Bronx Justice" and this review can be applied to all of them. Now, moving on to " The Tenth Case"...very excited.
I waited for this book for months and I am afraid I don't feel like this story did the rest of the series justice. The writing seemed less descriptive, and in turn left me a little bit bored through out. It started out strong but eventually I came to the realization that the best part of this book was the characters and the impressions they left on me from earlier novels. I sincerely hope that this isn't the last of series. I also sincerely hope that this review doesn't get back to the author. My apologies if it does...( big fan)
Yeah it was a great book unlike some others from the series.
I would'nt want to drop any spoilers, but i promise the first scene will draw you in to more great scenes
No, it was pretty intense, i felt like i needed a break after certain chapters.
The story was very captivating, but it may be to violent for some... not me though. :P
Yes, this book should not be missed by anybody.
This gripping tale has both, incredible triumph and amazing tragedy. Loved it, and i miss it already.
It was really hard to say after identifying with both, the deranged murderer, and the moral driven lawman.
Another highly regarded performance by Mr. Will Patton.
To anyone who does'nt already know; absolutly anything written by James Lee Burke is nothing short of a great story, you will never be disapointed.
It sounded like the writer was trying to sound
I dont really know wtf that was supposed to be...
