The most spellbinding suspensful tale of historical twelth century lifestyle I have ever read. The trials and tribulations of the characters are written in such expertise they become your own life experience. Tears, joy, suffering and encouragement course through your heart and soul as you read and/or listen to the events of the story unfold. This book was simply one which when I began to listen I was unable to stop.
A great deal of accurate research of early century living and the early stages of one of the largest religious organizations in the world has compounded the strength and determination of the characters within.
Hardships seldom known in our world in which many of us are oblivious to in our day and time are exemplified and shared from victom to victory. Justice is served regardless right or wrong. People made decisions and stuck by them. This was a world, an admirable world of made decisions. There is no wishy washy indicisiveness here. All things had a purpose wether for good, evil or advancement. People knew what they needed and had the intestinal fortitude to seek those needs and protect their families.
This is a must read. Especially for those whom are looking for strength, for those whom think they have been wronged. This book encourages ones hopes and dreams on many levels. Always keeping one on the edge of their seat awaiting the outcome of each situation that arises and needs be defeated.
Could this be our future? ...
I rate this fantasy series in my top ten and of course my number one is "Lord of the Rings" yet this is nothing similar.
Hadrian Blackwater .... Witty and Honorable Thief
The very first scene in the very first book ... will never forget it ... so wonderfully written it caught my attention for the entirety of the series. In fact the series never changed ... easy to read or listen ... enjoyed it thoroughly.
Several ... yet would be a spoiler if I gave them away.
A must read if you enjoy not only fantasy but history and simply excellent dialogue between these two theives.
I have listened to and read this series. Both are quite excellent. A female narrator who enabled the voices of the male characters quite brilliantly in the audio version.
I have no comparison for this story line and have read and listened to uncountable tales. This is fairly unique to what I have read in the fantasy line. Though I do not enjoy generally such dark tales this one caught my attention because of the uniqueness of the story line.
A fantastic voice. The characters were easily identified, male and female alike. The best rendition I have heard of a females take on male voices.
The ending of the third book. Do not want to spoil it .. but the series is worth reading and or listening to simply to see change affected.
Can good come of evil or rather that which is evil turn good? My thoughts on these books go deeper than most might .. indeed my thoughts on most books ... then there is always the appearance of good in that which is evil .. it is what made these books interesting.
Absolutely fantastic ... its impossible to say any different about The Word of God, easy to listen to ... The only reason I give this a 4 Star instead of a five is again narrative choice in changing characters. .. Yes, Download and listen, it is worth its weight and more in gold.
Fantastic ... Download ... Listen .... sit back and enjoy Gods wonderful words spoken verbatim.
I would give this a 5 Star instead of a 4 .. if the narrator had not infused so much emotion into the characters but rather changed up voices. I understand why it is done as the history here has emotion but where it all lay is in the words themselves. With this said .. DOWNLOAD and LISTEN it is FANTASTIC, the Word of God is Matchless. If you are using KJV version of the bible it is verbatim. Of course, the book of Job shows not only trial but great tribulation, reminding us to pray for others even when we feel we are the one needing prayer. God is Great!
I would give it a 5 star only because it is Gods word but I am not reviewing God here but "The Publisher" and/or "Audible" .... Every other HOVEL AUDIO Bible book I have listened thus far I would indeed give a 4 or 5 star review. When you select to download the book of "ACTS" you get "3rd John" .. not what I paid for and am waiting for a correction in the matter presently. The Icon in my library on my computer and on the internet shows up ACTS but the Title in the column is 3rd John and indeed plays/reads as 3rd John.
The only other thing I have to suggest is that the narrator purposefully infuses emotions into characters in this series of downloads, i.e. the devil tempting Jesus etc ... Honestly, we have all been tricked if we think that the devil is going to appear unto the Son of God to tempt him like a greedy spineless worm, you are all sadly mistaken, Christ was much smarter than this and the adversary would have known it. Change the voice, but .. leave out the childlike emotions ... we are adults.
With all this said ... All the Hovel Audio Bible book downloads I have listened to are indeed unabridged, and the narrator is easy to listen to when not infusing emotions and I have enjoyed them very much. Thus, I will always recommend anyone to download The Word of God for without a doubt it stands alone and is unmatched. But keep in mind the emotions spoken may or may not be the emotions displayed of those whom truly spoke the words thousands of years ago.
Always Download the Bible unabridged ... and I hope ACTS becomes ACTS soon and not 3rd JOHN.
An intriguing intelligent girl with the courage of a historical warrior of old interferes with the lives of the great scholars of her time. A chance taker, an adventurer whom finds friends and companions in strange places along her way.
Never a dull moment. Fascinating gadgets, creatures and traveling arrangements always keeping the main character, her friends and us as readers excited to continue on wanting more time with the girl who has the weight of the world on her shoulders...
A must read
Jean Auel interacts early mankind with one of our own. The Pleistocene Ice Age is a grueling world to live in and all must learn to work together to survive.
A most superb tale of the different daily physical and mental roles between man and woman, their thought process and survival. How medicines were made, foods stored, tools and clothing designed all provided by nature. A hard life with joy and sorrow.
The book continuously picks up momentum and keeps one reading. Not simply a survival story as we know survivalist in our day in time but the story of lives. Humanity working together finding out the consequences of not working well together.
A myriad of logical emotion and strength. Although the narrator moves a bit quick for me it is an excellent listen. I will listen to it again.
If you are an Anne Rice reader of her "Vampire Chronicles" this gives an explanation of the life of Marius far more in depth.
It is a worthwhile read if you have read the "Chronicles," and are looking for more information regarding this character to fill in the gaps.
Also, it brings in new characters as well as expounding on a few of the past characters. I looked at it more as an autobiography of Marius.
It is a worthwhile read once only in my opinion.
A fantastic display of the continuing hardships from past families in "The Pillars of the Earth" and new families and characters.
Again, great feats and defeats that keep you on edge while the strength of the characters continue to overcome obstacles and one of the oldest religious organizations in the world. Great medical debacles of the times where medical research is considered an outrageous sin. To others a necessity to research and overcome to protect oneself and others of the medical evil that arises. Those whom should be strong are found weak and those whom are not allowed to be strong find courage.
The difference between men and women and their roles are tried and tested to their limits.
Some run to that which is evil to save their lives to find the strength to stand up and turn it around to benefit not themselves but others.
Great wills of mans and womens strengths are tested to the extremes. Losses and Gains in life as well as lost gains to the extreme.
A must read ... great encouragement and never a dull moment.
