On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me—well, actually, my true love, Darcy O’Mara, is spending a feliz navidad tramping around South America. Meanwhile, Mummy is holed up in a tiny village called Tiddleton-under-Lovey with that droll Noel Coward! And I’m snowed in at Castle Rannoch with my bumbling brother, Binky, and sourpuss sister-in-law, Fig.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Twelve Clues of Christmas to be better than the print version?

NO, the audio version is simply delightful thanks to Katherine Kellgren and her many talents. You will enjoy the audio!

What other book might you compare The Twelve Clues of Christmas to and why?

Not really "another" book, but all the books in this particular series are delightful.

Have you listened to any of Katherine Kellgren’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have read all of the Royal Spyness books, and this narrator will not disappoint you.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, of course. I wasn't on the edge of my seat or biting my fingernails, but did want to know what was going to happen. This series is not an in depth mystery book, but a mystery that keeps you wondering if you can figure out the guilty person before the narrator will tell you. But the characters become so familiar to you, and they are seem to leap off the "pages", and you will many a times laugh out loud, I certainly did.

    Any additional comments?

Sometimes, the characters and the stories of this whole series became predictable, but I would still recommend getting the books!! Enjoy them!

Just when everything at the Poor Relation Hotel seems to be running smoothly, Sir Philip brings in another poor relation, Mrs. Budge. When Sir Philip presents his paramour, Lady Fortescue swears great oaths and says the woman is probably related to half the costermongers in London and certainly does not possess one rich relative. Mrs. Budge does nothing but eat all day and refused to do any work around the hotel. Worst of all, Miss Tonks seems to be taking the romance between Sir Philip and Mrs. Budge quite hard.

Where does Sir Philip's Folly rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

You will finally get to know Sir Folly - not as heartless as he seems to be yet, yet a very very clever, unpredictable man. Wonderful if you can get the book on sale - if not - it is worth a credit.

    Any additional comments?

I would not read this book as a "stand alone book" as the series almost works a bit like a puzzle piece. Try to read this series in order, and if it a fun read, nothing to deep, yet entertaining and will ease your mind. Book harmonizes well with the other books in the series. Narrator is great!

What made the experience of listening to Match Me If You Can the most enjoyable?

The characters are very engaging and the story flowed really well.

What did you like best about this story?

Overall I enjoyed the book - I enjoyed the bantering between the two main characters.

What about Anna Fields’s performance did you like?

I thought Anna did a good job, however, and I know she is a woman, her male voices were not top notch.

    Any additional comments?

I bought the book on sale, so I am glad I did not spent a credit. Did not realize that is part of a series, although I think this book stands well on its own. I did not think it was very realistic that the main character knew all these "important and wealthy people", this did not really add up with her own private and financial life. Good story, but the ending was rather abrupt and not really developed, although not too terribly bad. I would recommend the book if you can get on sale.

What made the experience of listening to The Potato Factory the most enjoyable?

If you read my reviews, you will notice that I don't like predictability. Fear not! This book has so many twists and turns and is so rich in historical details, that you will not be bored, not longwinded, but transported to a rough past. This book is absolutely awesome. So well written!!! Worth the credit(s).

What did you like best about this story?

The richness and the details of story. History became alive. It felt like a thriller with unpredictable characters, unknown circumstances and never heard of traditions from the 1800's. Awesome descriptions. Excellent peek into human nature. What a mind!! Thanks Mr. Courtenay!
I loved the story about the "rat races" - I could not have even have come up with a plot or scheme like that!!

Have you listened to any of Humphrey Bower’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Humphrey Bowers is awesome - he added to the richness and the life of this book. Mr. Courtenay was the creator, yet Mr. Bowers breathed life into the narration.

    Any additional comments?

I am reading second book now, and am looking forward to listen to my book every day. You won't regret the purchase.

What made the experience of listening to Drums of Autumn the most enjoyable?

As always Diana Gabaldon has done her research. I enjoy the medical background, as well as the historical and human aspects of the stories and also this book.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the reunion of all three beloved characters (sorry for spoiler).

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

Davina Porter does a great job, she is so talented and makes the characters come alive! I love her melodic voice!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope - no extreme reactions, just enjoyed it

Worth a credit. The writing is sublime, you will like the characters. Sometimes the story line is a bit "unbelievable" and makes me roll my eyes, but I am overall hooked to the series.

In a novel as warm and embracing as a family kitchen, Barbara O’Neal explores the poignant, sometimes complex relationships between mothers and daughters - and the healing magic of homemade bread. Professional baker Ramona Gallagher is a master of an art that has sustained her through the most turbulent times, including a baby at 15 and an endless family feud. But now Ramona’s bakery threatens to crumble around her. Literally. She’s one water-heater disaster away from losing her grandmother’s rambling Victorian and everything she’s worked so hard to build.

Would you try another book from Barbara O'Neal and/or Tanya Eby?

No, I don't think so. The writing is good, but the storyline was rather boring - not that problems of the characters are boring, it was just something other writers have covered as well.

What three words best describe Tanya Eby’s voice?

    she was ok.

Do you think How to Bake a Perfect Life needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    No

Code Name Verity is a compelling, emotionally rich story with universal themes of friendship and loyalty, heroism and bravery. Two young women from totally different backgrounds are thrown together during World War II: one a working-class girl from Manchester, the other a Scottish aristocrat, one a pilot, the other a wireless operator. Yet whenever their paths cross, they complement each other perfectly and before long become devoted friends. But then a vital mission goes wrong....

What did you love best about Code Name Verity?

It is elusive, yet it is accurate. The title fits perfectly.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the delicate weaving of the stories told by both women, and that the book was not a "I have already read some similar story". You need to pay attention and you keep wondering what will happen next. This book is a real "page turner". I will read it again! So worth the credit.

What about Morven Christie and Lucy Gaskell ’s performance did you like?

One of best narration I have heard in a long time. Especially Ms Morven Christie. Both ladies did a wonderful job!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't tell, I would give it away, but YES they are two or three moments. Love the aspect of the friendship

Somalia, on the tip of the Horn of Africa, has been inhabited as far back as 9,000 B.C. Its history is as rich as the country is old. Caught up in a decades-long civil war, Somalia, along with Iraq and Afghanistan, has become one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Getting there is a forty-five-hour, five-flight voyage through Frankfurt, Dubai, Djibouti, Bosasso (on the Gulf of Aden), and, finally, Galkacyo. Somalia is a place where a government has been built out of anarchy.

What made the experience of listening to The Pirates of Somalia the most enjoyable?

My husband is a real Somalia Pirate Hunter, no I am not kidding. We bought the book in print and on Audible, it is SO true what is really going on. The sadness, the danger, the politics, the mystery and the hardships. If you have watched the movie. Captn Phillips and read this book you will know what our guys are doing to protect all these tankers!!

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

It is a true story, and I am LIVING it!!

What does Sunil Malhotra bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Great perfomance

If you could give The Pirates of Somalia a new subtitle, what would it be?

No, the title is just right!

The Forgotten Garden is enchanting and engrossing. It takes you back into a time where things were still in "order", people knew their place, but YET mystery, secrets were just as alive as they are today.

Is it possible to write a sidesplitting novel about the breakup of the perfect marriage? If the writer is Nora Ephron, the answer is a resounding yes. For in this inspired confection of adultery, revenge, group therapy, and pot roast, the creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter.

If you could sum up Heartburn in three words, what would they be?

The book gave me heartburn. The story was really flat - another divorce story - no solutions, no depth of characters.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The only thing Ms. Ephron nailed were the description of the emotions of the characters. Yet there was no spice to the story and some aspects were unbelievable. The only spice given were the cusswords.

Have you listened to any of Meryl Streep’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I love Meryl Streep - but her performance was just ok.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No reaction, other than it was a credited wasted.

    Any additional comments?

This book had great reviews, so I thought I give it a try. I have read better books about divorces, as tragic as that is, but this one was just mere average. Get the book on sale, don't waist a credit.

What made the experience of listening to Heirs and Graces the most enjoyable?

The book, although it can be read on it's own, just continues with the story about the Queen always needing Georgie to help with all these naughty royals. Some characters are such fun, they can't be missed, some new characters add a bit of spice. The story flowed well, but a bit of drama and action was missing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Darcy - because there is not enough of him. Queenie needs to be a bit more polished, but otherwise she is hilarious.

What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?

She does a great job. Now and then she reads too fast and her voice gets a bit too loud, but overall - she makes the characters come to life

    Any additional comments?

Love these series, but Rhys needs to give us more Darcy or more action. A bit more drama wouldn't hurt either. Somewhat predictable, but good clean fun, and enjoy reading or listening to this series when I truly want to "switch" off.
    Happy reading!
