It has been a year of change since Gemma Doyle arrived at the foreboding Spence Academy. Her mother murdered, her father a laudanum addict, Gemma has relied on an unsuspected strength to turn catty schoolgirls into loyal friends, and has discovered an ability to travel to an enchanted world called the realms, where dark magic runs wild.

I just could not wrap my head and mind around the story. It never grew, it just went on, but no good explanations as to why and where or how? Well, I might not be smart enough to get it, but it was overall a repetitious imaginary land of witches, witchcraft, fantastical beings, or maybe hobbits that went the wrong way looking for "precious". Well, it wasn't that great.

Life is finally looking up for the poor relations. The Prince of Wales’ coat of arms gleams over the hotel entrance. All but one of the rooms are filled by the open-handed Prince Hugo and his entourage. They have finally reached a position comfortable enough to allow them to consider offers to buy the hotel. The poor relations’ hard-earned success, however, is in stark contrast to the plight of their latest guest, Lady Jane Fremney. The slight, beautiful youngest daughter of the Earl of Durby has been cast out of her family for refusing to marry the man her father has chosen.

Would you consider the audio edition of Back in Society: A Regency Romance to be better than the print version?

I truly enjoyed the series. This one just sums it all up and puts a bow on the package. I loved the series in audio form as Davina Porter does a wonderful job. You will get to know the characters so much better thanks to her personal touch.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did like Sir Philip the best - as he is not the "norm".

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

She is one of the best :)

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, no extreme reaction - just a lovely wrap up.

    Any additional comments?

The series were well worth the money - I believe I got most of them on sale. You will enjoy listening to these books while traveling, on the way to work, or just a leisure day in the sun.

Would you try another book from Theresa Ragan and/or Katherine Kellgren?

I probably would not try the author again. The story was just so deja vu, and so stereo typed, how head strong women are today and how they were not like that ages ago. The laird being macho bad guy, yet ..... you get the picture.

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?

Katherine Kellgren did a good job for all characters

What would have made this romance irresistible?

If it were more unpredictable and had more history and depth to it.

    Any additional comments?

I would not waste a credit for this book.

What made the experience of listening to Twenties Girl the most enjoyable?

I bought the book based on reviews. The quirky and witty way of the authors writing made the book charming and enjoyable. However, the story was not very believable, but getting the book on sale is worth it.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the persistence of the ghost - but I DID NOT FALL IN LOVE with the main character. She was not a very honest person and that bugged me. She had other good qualities, but overall leans to become annoying.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There are several funny scenes, I don't want to spoil the book.

If you could rename Twenties Girl, what would you call it?

    The Dragonfly necklace

    Any additional comments?

Did not like the bad language, was uncalled for. Needed a bit more character development It is a "light read" nothing that makes you think or change your ways. I might give the author another try based on reviews.
Narration was ok -- male voices were just ok.

Eliza Budley is a beautiful widow whose husband gambled away his fortune. Lady Fortescue reminds the others that, to be fair, Mrs. Budley has no relatives on whom she can call. Gentle Mrs. Budley thinks she has escaped her fate until Sir Philip comes up with a plan: He has heard that the elderly Marquess of Peterhouse is senile, a widower, extremely rich, and unlikely to remember whether Mrs. Budley is a relative or not. So off Mrs. Budley goes. But the marquess turns out to be not so old, hardly senile, and, in fact, quite handsome.

MC Beaton seriously lacks imagination, Mrs Budley nothing else than all the other folks that join the poor relation. It is a poor relation imaginary book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Where does Lady Fortescue Steps Out rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The series is a fun read. This is book 1 and in this book Lady Fortescue, widowed and alone save for two loyal, unpaid servants, has sold off almost all of the furnishings in her large Bond Street home and faces a grim future. To the rescue comes Colonel Sandhurst - and many other impoverished aristocrats. The characters are likeable and well developed.
The book shines the light on real problems during those days, many historic facts and some funny happenings.

Who was your favorite character and why?

In book 1 my favorite character was Colonel Sandhurst as he compliments the more opinionated Lady Fortescue.

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ms. Porter just knows how to read, act, and draw you in - she is superb.

    Any additional comments?

I would highly recommend this series IF books are on sale - a credit better reserved for something a bit more deep and longer in audio hours. But overall I would recommend the book(s).

I got this book for free so I listened to it. The previous M.Harper book I read did not do much or me. This book although an easy read is just to unrealistic for me

What could Molly Harper have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This is her genre, vampires, mindless women ,some sex ,some background story forced humor. Nothing to be changed.

What disappointed you about Dreaming of You?

Flat story. Characters are unrealistic, bland and underdeveloped. Some emotions or behaviors were well characterized but overall this is a miss.

Would you ever listen to anything by Lisa Kleypas again?

    No

How could the performance have been better?

The performance killed it for me. The female voices were stiff and over articulated. The male voices were horrible. They made me cry and I am still sobbing.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

English was well written. Some aspects poked my wanting to keep listening but there was no connection between the reader and the characters
