"Wonderfully written mystery!"
I probably wouldn't listen to the book again, but not because I didn't enjoy the narrator or the story, but because there are so many more stories out there to read or listen to. I'll never live long enough to hear them all!
This was my second Anne Perry tale and I am completely hooked. I can't wait to read more of her books. Anytime I see Davina Porter as the narrator of a book, I am almost guaranteed to find it a thoroughly enjoyable listen.
"Delightful series!"
Davina Porter is such a gifted narrator. She brings the author's characters to life in a way that I could never envision just reading the printed book.
I know the story revolved primarily around Miss Tonks, but Cassandra, Miss Tonks' niece was a treasure
On occasion I will read the print book of one I've recently listened to and I will actually "hear" Davina Porter's voice in my head narrating the characters.
I swear that I giggled out loud when Miss Tonks attempted to hold up her sister's carriage while disguised as a highwayman.
This series is IMO a hidden treasure. M. C. Beaton does a fabulous job of capturing the essence of Regency England.
"A little dark, but enjoyable"
This was my least favorite of this series so far. There were parts of the story where I felt Perry spent too much time and detail in the telling and then there were other key elements of the story that felt like they were just slipped into the tale.
"Delightful!"
I thoroughly enjoy the Maisie Dobbs series. I love the thoughtful approach she has to problem solving and dealing with others. I look forward to listening to each installment in the series. It is definitely worth the credit spent.
Orlagh Cassidy is one of my favorite narrators. She shifts voices between characters beautifully and with amazing consistency. She truly brings the story to life.
"Delightful!"
Davina Porter is truly an amazing narrator. She does such an amazing job of bringing the characters in the story to life.
Part of the experience of reading an Anne Perry novel is her beautiful way of bringing to life Victorian England - the city, the people and their lives. She draws the reader along in the carriage of her story with her words.
"Fun romp!"
I'd recommend this book to someone looking for a fun fluff read. If this book were a television show it'd be a good sitcom.
C.J. Critt is one of my favorite readers. She does such a great job of communicating all of the different nuances of the characters she is reading. I actually selected this book because I had just recently completed listening to another book she read.
"Did not like the narrator at all"
I have been a fan of this series by Sanford from the beginning. The story he has woven here is one of his best. Unlike many authors who have created a long lasting series, Sanford hasn't lost his passion for these characters.
I seriously doubt it. I felt like he was reading this book for a film noir performance of some 1940's hard boiled detective tale. It just didn't fit. It was a struggle for me to overcome my annoyance with the narrator to actually focus on the story
"Cute story"
This was a cute fluff book.
The reader was ok, but it would have been better if the main character's
