Anne Marie Roche wants to find happiness again.

On Valentine's Day, Anne Marie and several other widows get together to celebrate...what? Hope, possibility, the future. They each begin a list of 20 wishes. Anne Marie's list starts with "Find one good thing about life". It includes learning to knit, doing good for someone else, falling in love again.

She begins to act on her wishes, and when she volunteers at a local school, an eight-year-old girl named Ellen enters her life. It's a relationship that becomes far more involving than Anne Marie intended. It also becomes far more important than she ever imagined.

Jane says: "An uplifting, morale boosting book."
    "plot too predictable"

This author does great job of developing the characters and their situations but the plot and ending were too predictable.

In separate vignettes, we meet Katherine, who is taking care of her ailing husband; Julianna, juggling with construction paper, scissors, and rubber cement in a room full of high-spirited four-year-olds; Adrianna, struggling with the difficulties of marriage; Cassandra, tending her toddlers; Victoria, searching for a love to call her own; Alexandra, waiting for word from her doctor about an uncertain diagnosis; and Isabella, discovering the gift of motherhood.

What a wonderful Christmas book. It is more than a day later and I am still thinking about this book. The author makes you feel like you wish you could meet these women and share a cup of tea with them. The ending was so wonderful it made me cry and smile all at the same time. I listened to this driving home for the holiday by myself from CA to TX wishing I could share the experience with my best friends that are like my sisters. I will listen to this each Christmas and purchase it for those I truly love and respect.
