It was hard to listen to this book and know what was fact and what was fiction, since he starts off with some unsubstantiated facts. For instance, there is no record of the marriage of Catherine, widow of Henry V to the father of her subsequent children, but the author states it as fact. This calls into question the rest of the "facts" in this book. Although this is a period that interests me greatly, the authors biases are too strong to make his surmises acceptable.
The quality of the reader made this good historical romance story great. A very enjoyable time, even though I had read the book myself.
This book is so much better unabridged. The characters of the book set this book apart from other Regency reads. Heyer is a worthy successor to Jane Austen but you would never know from this abridged version. The reader is a further detraction from the high quality of the authors and her characters. Skip this version.
Great reader, great book. Barbara Rosenblat makes it come alive with her different voices.
