A touching story of grief and survival. Bravely and honestly written.
An interesting look into the life of a man trying to make his way in a new country and culture. He is trying to pave the way to move his wife with him to America for "a better life". As he deals with his financial struggles and loneliness he finds himself changing. Will his family approve of the new person he is becoming. Can he be accepted into his new culture? His internal struggles make for an interesting read.
I enjoyed this book told from letters written back and forth over many years. The characters are full bodied and interesting. A different read and a story you have not read 100 times before.
This book is an endless litany of unlikeable, whiny characters with little redeeming value. I listened to about 17 hours of what I thought would be a good read (according to critic reviews) and found NOTHING funny or satisfying about the read. It is not sad nor did I learn anything from it. Too long, too wordy and boring.
