"A Classic!!!"
I have seen GWTW movie several times, but never got up the nerve to actually read the huge novel. I ended up buying this on sale at Audible, and it was by far the best (and longest) novel I have "read" in awhile. The narrator sounds just like the movie Scarlett (Vivian Leigh), and it is well done.
I recommend it highly, and I am usually more of a fantasy, vampire genre reader.
"Interesting"
It was so good to hear Jaycee read her book. She is an amazing woman and sounds like she is healing more every day. I hope she makes a ton of money off this book, so she can take care of her children and herself. She uses this book to heal herself, and it is very plainly a book written by a beginner. She even admits that her thoughts and memories are very disjointed, and sometimes following along is like listening to a small child tell you indepth stories about their pets. This book takes much patience, which is perhaps an interesting lesson Jaycee is trying to teach.
"Really long..."
This book is so long, It had a good premise & I LOVED the narrator & the Scottish accents. I do find it hard to imagine that someone going back in time would adjust so well. Never seemed to miss anything from her own time, including her husband...well, she does think of him fondly now & then. I'd starve to death with some of the food that is described & I really think so would she would have keeled over with the lack of hygiene also described. So, if I just go with the story and don't focus on science, it's romantic and very slow. Kind of feels like you are trying to walk through Jello. I'd probably suggest the abridged version if there is one. I gave up around the beginning of the 4th part, although I will probably go back and listen to that. Usually I am the kind of person who listens to my audible books at every chance I get, and I found myself listening to the radio instead. Good things: the main characters are endearing, I love the Scottish accents & adages, the descriptions of medicimal practices are interesting, and there's a little history thrown in.
"Not very good, sadly."
First of all, Victoria McGee got a bad rap. Her monotone, attempting-to-be-sexy voice didn't annoy me as much I everyone said that she would. Actually, wait until she says the chapter numbers. I literally laughed outloud everytime she said one. The story...it wasn't that good. The narrator reading chapter numbers was about the highlight of the book. Trying to hard to be a sexy tween book, maybe? Weak characters, weak plot, weak everything. For these ancient vampires, they are really nice and really naive. Interesting theme for explaining their vampirism...when I throw out interesting I mean, the author used an explanation out of right field, then left field, then the parking lot... Save your credits on this one.
"Great concept...didn't deliver"
When you finally figure Luce & Daniel's connection, it's a awesome concept, but I just didn't think the author ever filled in the rest of the story. Luce is a bit too naive, in my opinion. Disappointing overall.
"OK"
Not Stephenie Meyer's greatest work, but it is interesting. I got it on sale, so it was no big loss and it's not a long book. If you are absolutely absorbed into Twilight, you will probably be more excited. I wish she would finish her book, "Midnight Sun," which is from Edward's point of view. Get this book just to complete the collection, but the Twilight series is much better.
"Sookie fan...but this one was disappointing"
I have looked forward to this latest release in the Sookie series, but this one was forgetable. I got the feeling that Ms. Harris either rushed or doesn't really want to keep writing this series anymore.
Sookie depressed me, and her relationship with Eric was kind of dullsville. And, I am sick to death of the fairies. I'll be glad to read about whatever wild thing is after her in book 11 as long as the fairies are laid to rest.
Otherwise, I love this series. This was just a speed bump in an otherwise great series.
"Good so far"
I'm excited about the next Sookie book, and so far this sounds like it's not going to disappoint. Just a suggestion...wait for the book. Reading the first chapter but not having the option to go on to the rest of the book until May kind of stinks.
"Cute"
I liked this series alot. It's fun and shallow, and Betsy has some hilarious lines. The narrator's interpretation of how Sinclair speaks is kind of dumb, but you get used to it. If you enjoyed Southern Vampire Mysteries, you should like this too
