With their fearless crime-fighting, good manners, and manly fashion sense, the Hardly boys are the pride of Feyport, Illinois. In A Ghost in the Closet, dark-haired, muscular Frank and his lovable kid brother, Joe, return from a gay trip to Europe to find that their parents - world-famous detective Fennel P. Hardly and his wife, Mrs. Hardly - have been kidnapped! Even worse, so have six poodles from the Lake Merrimen Dog Show! Pals Nancy Clue, Cherry Aimless, R.N., and Police Detective Jackie Jones help the Hardly boys track down the criminals.

What made the experience of listening to A Ghost in the Closet the most enjoyable?

Mabel Maney is a true "rara avis" comedic genius who kept me laughing out loud. The performance was high camp. How does he manage to do all those voices?

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The second wonderful part was that Mabel Maney transported me back to my seven year-old self. I felt all the excitment and suspense again.

Which character – as performed by Mikael Naramore – was your favorite?

That's a hard question, but Cherry Aimless was so guiless and campy she was my favorite.

If you could rename A Ghost in the Closet, what would you call it?

The Mystery of Father's Big Secret

  • The Hollywood Studios: House Style in the Golden Age of the Movies

Hollywood in the years between 1929 and 1948 was a town of moviemaking empires. The great studios were estates of talent: sprawling, dense, diverse. It was the Golden Age of the Movies, and each studio made its distinctive contribution. But how did the studios, "growing up" in the same time and place, develop so differently? What combinations of talents and temperaments gave them their signature styles?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Hollywood Studios to be better than the print version?

Even though the book interested me I would never made time to read it. Fortunately I ordered the audio. It was great! It is encyclopedic yet never dry. The narrator was very good and obviously relished the book as much as I did.

What did you like best about this story?

The humor and witticisms. There was much I wanted to remember and quote

What about Barrett Whitener’s performance did you like?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
