On a winter night in upstate New York, two men break into a house they believe is empty. It isn't, and within minutes an old woman is dead and the house is in flames. Across the county, a phone rings in a darkened bedroom, waking a pregnant woman. It's her husband. He wants her to know that he and his friend have gotten themselves into a little trouble. So Patty Dickerson's old life ends and a strange new one begins.

I've been an Audible customer for over three years and I've listened to hundreds of books. This is my very first review. OMG, I'd have rather had my ear drums gouged out with a pencil. I only listened to it all to "get my moneys worth". That ain't ever going to happen with this listen. I cringe at having to give this even one star but it's required to complete a review.

Justine Jones has a secret. A hardcore hypochondriac, she’s convinced a blood vessel is about to burst in her brain. Then, out of the blue, a startlingly handsome man named Packard peers into Justine’s soul and invites her to join his private crime-fighting team. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime deal. With a little of Packard’s hands-on training, Justine can weaponize her neurosis, turning it outward on Midcity’s worst criminals.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

It's very, very, very rare for me not to complete a book that I've paid good hard-earned money for. This book was just gawd-awful. On top of that the narrator grated on my nerves. I'm not sure if it was because of the poor story that the narrator had to try and bring to life or just the narrator's voice, or both.

The only thing that could have made this a 4 or 5 listening experience is a good story.

Has Mind Games turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not this genre but definitely by this writer, and possibly the narrator. Though I would give the narrator a second chance to be sure.

Would you be willing to try another one of Rebecca Wisocky’s performances?

No. I'm not willing to throw good hard-earned money after bad. If it was free I'd try again.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Illustration of the book's cover.
