As I very much enjoyed Ender's Game (even thought it wasn't the type of book I normally pick), I was disappointed in this 2nd book. By itself, it is probably a pretty good book, which is why I rated it as high as a 3. But I found listening to it soon after finishing Ender's Game pretty boring. Save your money. Though I still have about an hour left until the end, alot of the book is near identical to Ender's game from just a bit of a different viewpoint. While some people have complained that it is TOO abridged ... I feel like only the 1st hour (maybe 2) and last is worth calling a new book.
I really enjoy Therese Plummer's rendition of these books, they have all been great.
Can't recall how I first got started on Robyn Carr's books. I enjoy her ability to make the characters seem real, and people who we care about, and the story lines are interesting, though a bit predictable after awhile. However I really wished I'd started one of her other series instead. Pregnant women and babies in every single story are getting a bit old, though I suppose not unexpected with one of the main characters in the initial book being a mid-wife. Might give one of the other series a try after this next one. Anybody have a recommendation?
No, just from this author.
Lindy...mostly because I didn't have to put up with her as long.
Most of them.
I found it interesting to read the other reviews. Hard to believe in many cases we were reading the same book! Maybe if you were already an Anne Tyler fan you cut her some slack. While I cant argue that it was likely a really accurate family portrayal, when I read I want to escape real life. On the plus side, their life was SOOOOO boring it made mine seem exciting by comparison!
I don't think so. The story seems interesting, but the reader's screaming is driving me crazy. A good choice for Whispersync.
So far, how annoying the 'screaming scenes' were.
Heaven forbid no!
Hoping there aren't TOO many instances where the reader feels the to 'act' instead of READ.
If you are a John Grisham fan you will be sadly disappointed ... unless perhaps you are a football fan. It is rare that I come across a book that I don't finish but getting through this one has been a real challenge. Boring ramblings of aging college jocks about sums it up.
