"Holds interest"
Romance is not the best description of this work. It is a good story in the typical Scots setting of clan conspiracy, and holds interest. If you are looking for hot sex, look elsewhere.
"My kind of Hero"
As usual Ms. Putney has produced an excellent historical novel with good strong characters and an interesting believable story. Even these are romance novels, the romance doesn't overwhelm the story.
MacKensey is a realistic hero who never steps out of reality but functions with all the faults of a real guy.
Mr. Reynols is not Simon Prebble, but his narration is decent.
"Good book bad narrator"
I enjoy Ms. Putney's books. The stories are well written and never overdone. In this case there are two very strong characters whose lives are woven together by a finely constructed story.
The story was spoiled for me by horrid narration. I'm not sexist when it comes to narrators but when a male narrator does such a bad job with female voices it takes a lot of patience for me to listen.
"Boy oh boy!"
From beginning to end I was into this book. It did not disappoint. Unlike many historical romances nothing was overdone. The romance, war, crisis, etc was balanced into a most enjoyable story.
As a first book in a series it does a good job of developing interest in characters and entertains enough to make you want the next one.
"I want more"
Excellent well written mystery thriller. I'm not quite as dumb as Jo so I figured it out long before she did, but she was rather distracted. The hero of this series isn't your typical dashing, daring, unbelievable character, but rather just a normal guy with normal guy faults and strengths. That makes him perfect for this series. I look forward to more.
"Really Terrific Book!"
This is one of those really good books that come along on occasion. strong independent women, a messed up good guy who needs female influence in his life, a seriously evil bad guy, a mystery, and a couple of sweet love stories, all work together in a well written story.
It works and it works well. This is one that goes into my listen-again library.
"Three is a Magic Number"
This is yet another wonderful trilogy by Nora Roberts and book three is magic - a terrific wrap up to the whole story.
"Top of the List"
If I make a list of my favorite 20 books, this one would be top of the list.
The story is solid and the characters are all very strong and believable. There is not just one wonderful love story, but two, and both are sweet believable stories with no overabundance of sex which doesn't fit into the story.
There are also some wonderful secondary characters - truly characters- that give the story fun and interest.
Definitely on worth listening to more than once.
"I Couldn't Finish It"
I am really disappointed. I loved the Virgin Series and was excited about this book. It has been on my Iphone for over a month and I have tried at least 5 times to listen to it enough to get into it.
I just couldn't do it. The story and the characters bored me to tears. Even Therese Plummer couldn't warm it up enough for me to want to finish it.
It is rare for me to dump a book without finishing it. I'm afraid this one joined that limited collection.
"Fool me once"
I can be fooled once into finishing a book expecting it to be worth my time, but I can't be fooled twice.
A ,mystery is supposed to keep you guessing for at least a little while. This book told me who the bad guy was in the first 30 minutes. I kept listening because I couldn't believe it would be that bad and that it would surprise me in the end. It didn't.
The narration was horrid, sounding like there was an echo most of the time. I kept waiting for that to go away. It didn't.
Don't waste your credit.
"NOT IMPRESSED"
This was written in such a boring way that it ruined any interest there might have been.
