If you could sum up Without Fail in three words, what would they be?

    A strong return!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Of course we read these because of Jack, but his Secret Service contact was a strong, likable character.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The Thanksgiving Day soup line scene was good, not too complicated, but exciting.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No tears, no laughs, simply a good story.

    Any additional comments?

After a disappointing Echo Burning, Child brought back a good Reacher read.

Virgil Flowers kicked around for a while before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. First it was the army and the military police, then the police in St. Paul, and finally Lucas Davenport brought him into the BCA, promising him, "We'll only give you the hard stuff." He's been doing the hard stuff for three years now, but never anything like this.

If you could sum up Dark of the Moon in three words, what would they be?

    Good Flowers Introduction.

What did you like best about this story?

As a Sandford fan and Lucas Davenport follower, it's nice to have an introduction to a character that can fill-in for the tired Davenport series.

Have you listened to any of Eric Conger’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Conger did a good job bringing Virgil to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's not so compelling as to listen straight through, two or three hours at a time is good enough.

    Any additional comments?

I'm going to move on through the Virgil Flowers series.

Meet Jake Oliver. The day will come when he's one of the best cleaners in the business, a man skilled at making bodies disappear. At the moment, however, he's a 22 year old rookie cop, unaware his life is about to change. In a burning barn a body is found--and the fire isn't the cause of death. The detectives working the case have a pretty good idea about what went down. But Officer Oliver thinks it's something else entirely, and pursues a truth others would prefer remain hidden - others who will go to extreme lengths to keep him quiet.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If you like the Quinn character, this short read fills in the blanks as to how he got into this strange line of work. This answered the question, "is Quinn good, or is Quinn bad." It serves a the prequel to the Quinn series.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Quinn, of course, by his newbie police friend was an interesting character.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

Brick is a good reader. No complaints.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Probably, but there isn't enough here by itself to make a strong box office draw.

Reacher is hitching through the heat of West Texas and getting desperate for a ride. The last thing he's worried about is exactly who picks him up.

She's called Carmen. She's a good-looking young woman, she has a beautiful little girl...and she has married into the wrong family. They're called the Greers. They're a bitter and miserly clan, and they've made her life a living hell. Worse, her monster of a husband is soon due out of prison. So she needs protection, and she needs it now.

Lawyers can't help. Cops can't be trusted. So Reacher goes home with her to the lonely ranch where nothing is as it seems, and where evil swirls around them like dust in a storm. Within days, Carmen's husband is dead - and simmering secrets send Echo, Texas, up in flames.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Echo Burning was a disappointing Reacher story. Shallow plot, unsympathetic characters, but pretty good description of the stark south Texas landscape. I recommend a quick read just to keep up with Jack, but move on quickly.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I will continue through the Jack Reacher saga and hope Child will get back on track.

Have you listened to any of Dick Hill’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dick Hill is a talented performer, did the best he could with weak material.

Was Echo Burning worth the listening time?

    Barely.

    Any additional comments?

Looking forward to my next Reacher read.
