Kaylin Neya is a Hawk, part of the elite force tasked with keeping the City of Elantra safe. Her past is dark, her magic uncontrolled and her allies unpredictable. And nothing has prepared her for what is coming, when the charlatans on Elani Street suddenly grow powerful, the Oracles are thrown into an uproar and the skies rain blood.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Keylin doesn't reach a higher level of maturity with each book. Her feats are never acknowledged by the other characters and too much time is spent on theories and not enough on action.

Would you recommend Cast in Chaos to your friends? Why or why not?

With reservations. The novella was great and the next two were good, but after that the format just addressed another emergency without any growth.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

There is hardly any romance. Just statements of love....boring

    Any additional comments?

Bring back the excitement and wonder of the first several books.

The year is 2008 and Samantha Kofer's career at a huge Wall Street law firm is on the fast track - until the recession hits and she gets downsized, furloughed, escorted out of the building. Samantha, though, is one of the "lucky" associates. She's offered an opportunity to work at a legal aid clinic for one year without pay, after which there would be a slim chance that she'd get her old job back. In a matter of days Samantha moves from Manhattan to Brady, Virginia, population 2,200, in the heart of Appalachia, a part of the world she has only read about.

I agree with a previous reviewer who likened this to chick lit. It has all the basic Grisham components, but feels like it was written by a ghost writer who lacks the finesse and power of Grisham's earlier writing. We have a great cause, fighters for the cause, some significant tragedy and no particular resolution. A wimpy heroine who is frequently described as brilliant never seems to express that intelligence in her behavior. Nora Roberts fans would like this, but it is disappointing from John Grisham.

Every year in the great Temple City of Duvalpore, the image of the Wheel of the Infinite must be painstakingly remade to ensure another year of peace and harmony for the Celestial Empire. Every hundred years the sacred rite takes on added significance. For it is then that the very fabric of the world must be rewoven. Linked by the mystic energies of the Infinite, the Wheel and world are one. Should the holy image be marred, the world will suffer a similar injury. But a black storm is spreading across the Wheel.

What did you love best about Wheel of the Infinite?

The world was creative and the characters distinctive

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I don't usually pay much attention to the narration when it works. This narrator had the accent of the American south. Completely at odds with an exotic location. In addition, she mispronounced words. I cringed a lot listening to her.

    Any additional comments?

Martha Wells creates interesting worlds and characters. She needs a different narrator for this one.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I liked the premise of the first and the variation of the second, but this one just rehashes old ideas

Would you be willing to try another book from Anne Bishop? Why or why not?

I've read almost all of her books and this is the first one that bored me

Was Bridge of Dreams worth the listening time?

    No.

I am a new audible book buyer - only 8 or 9 so far - and I guess I thought they were all good. This is the first time I've encountered such a bad reader. 10 minutes in and I'm already tired of hearing her swallow. Just listened to another book with southern accents that was fine. These accents are cloying and annoying. I won't buy another book narrated by this person.
