I was very excited to listen to this book since I liked the Legend so much. I wish I can say I enjoyed it. It wasn't a bad book, really. It was just very predictable. An hour into the story I could tell exactly how it's going to end. Everything couple did I guessed long before it happened. The world building and character evolution was probably better in this one but it doesn't matter much if the story is weak. Also, she did in this book what I hate with a passion of thousand suns- a cliffhanger. Admittedly, that was the only thing I didn't predict. Sigh.I will read the next book. I think I know how it will end but I still want to see how they will get to that point. If you decide to buy this one, try not to think too hard and just enjoy the journey. Actually, it would be best to turn off your brain , that way you may not guess where the story is going.
I loved the first book and the narrator, and I was looking forward to this one. However, the narrator completely ruined the book. She may not be a bad reader but she was absolutely wrong for this novel. I gave up after two chapters. If you didn't read the first book, you might enjoy this one.
Sigh. Mega disappointment.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for aliens. This series has mixed reviews but for some reason it got me from the first book and I got hooked on the interesting story about blood sucking aliens. Characters are totally cliché but the story is very interesting and the reader is giving every character a personality that sometimes lacks in writing. I would recommend this series for people who like to read paranormal romance.
There are books that make me want to hit my head against the wall from frustration. Repeatedly. This one could have been such a good book. Alas, the heroine was the opposite of what would you call a heroine. She was stupid, scared cry baby that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't like her, therefore I couldn't enjoy the story that could have been truly awesome. Concept is very cool. Aliens came and conquered but they are not exactly bad, although maybe they are but we don't really know it. There is a potential for great action, intriguing conspiracy, heroism and fascinating characters. Instead, we get Mia. Sigh. At least for people who like steamy sex, those scenes were okay. The reader was a bit annoying because her male and female characters sounded the same.
Sometimes I like to compare books to food. They are both subject to personal tastes and opinions. The eye of the beholder and all that.
So, there is the group of foods like casu marzu, deep fried maggots and mice wine that I reserve for truly disappointing, badly written or just plain bad books comparisons.
Bared to you by Ms. Day belongs to a second group comparisons, like a fried mars bar, or fruit after meal that ferments too long in your stomach making the whole meal indigestible. Some people find fried mars bar the height of awesomeness. I, however have to pass on it, as well as the next book in this series. Also, the reader was a bit annoying.
Even after two weeks after reading it, I'm not exactly sure if I like this book. It wasn't exactly boring, but it was lacking something that would make me want to buy the next one. Maybe it was lack of romance, or better written characters, but it just didn't have that wow effect on me. I'll pass on the next one. Reader wasn't bad.
I like this one more than the Jumper-the first in the series. It was full of action with interesting characters and unpredictable events. I wasn't expecting it to be so entertaining and I got it only because it was on sale. I'm so glad I did, and I will probably get the next one in the series. For the people who like light sci-fi, this book will hold your attention and leave you satisfied at the end. Reader was very good as well.
This is a perfect story if you need a brake from thinking. The story is reasonably interesting and mildly funny. It involves characters from her previous books and that made this book more fun for me. This book didn't disappoint, but it didn't leave me saying 'wow this was just awesome '. I will buy her next book next time I need a break from reality and a dose of supernatural. Amanda Ronconi is one of the better readers out there, but this time it took me a while to adjust to her unevenly accented words. The story mentions that main character had a weird accent, but I don't thinks that Ms. Ronconi got it hundred percent this time.
The bigger the expectation, the bigger the disappointment
Although many Frost fans would find this one highly satisfying , I found myself getting more and more frustrating as the story went. Laila acted like an idiot first five hours of the story and I knew exactly what was going to happen miles away. Only last couple of hours were a bit less predictable but the story at that point wasn't strong enough to keep me excited or interested. I hope next book will be a lot better. Reader made this book possible to listen, otherwise I would give up after second hour
It’s been a long time since I listened to a book that made me laugh, bite my nail and wish it wasn’t over at the end. For the longest time I thought my favorite sci-fi writer was Orson Scott Card. Well, Mr Scalzi proudly kicked his ass to a second place . This book is plane old fun. It’s written in a way that all that heavy sci-fi feels natural. As every good novel, it’s mostly about people but there are plenty of weirdo aliens and my favorite part- an asshole. You’ll know what I mean when you read the book. And you should read it because is worth it. Great job Mr. Scalzi, I only wish I discovered you sooner.
Richelle Mead is very unpredictable writer in a way that I can't tell if her next book is going to be good or bad. Her stories are always interesting and keep me coming back, but the way she writes sometimes makes me want to scream so loud,it reaches her all the way to Seattle. I started this series with big expectations and got a bit disappointed. I admit, I got so frustrated when I finished previous book that The Indigo Spell was going to decide if I will ever buy her books again. I will. This book was well written , interesting and thankfully angst free. I'm looking forward to the next one.
