"Like you're living in the moment"
I just listened to this and really enjoyed it. The story is both sweet and bitter. The narrator is very good. I really got the feeling for the crowd, the time, the life of the Hemmingway's and their friends. it's a nice, easy read, pretty easy to keep track of all the characters. I recommend listening.
"An incredible life!"
I'm glad that Ayaan Hirsi Ali narrated this book about her life. There is so much that happens to her that makes your heart race, and your head ache, and yet it's just the norm for her. She tells the story exactly as she feels it - and that's important in the narration. She is a strong person and although I don't agree with everything she's done she has done what is right for her.
"Had potential"
This was fun to listen to. It's easy and light, but towards the end it just didn't tie together well. The narrator is okay but there are quite a few times when a character is exasperated or yelling or sad and she still uses the very slow, drawn out speech she usually uses - especially for the men.
"Surprisingly entertaining"
I really enjoyed this book, especially the follow up with all the characters. There are plenty of interesting plot twists to keep you interested to know more and keep on reading/listening. I like historical fiction a lot, and I have already recommended this book to a few people.
"World ending or not, not much to this story"
I was dissapointed by this book. There were some "big" things that happen, but the time and emotion given to these events didn't make them seem "big." It was more of a lazy river, when I expected some rapids to keep things interesting.
"Entertaining the whole way through"
If you like Tina Fey you'll love this. She ventures into her childhood, her training, her time on SNL, and now time as both being a mother and 30 Rock.
"Meh, there was potential"
I found this book to be pages and pages of nothing really happening, or perhaps it was many things happening but without the story being told in a way that made me feel anything. I suggest skipping it.
"Disapointed"
This was disappointing, I guess just not my style. I accidentally skipped ahead 3 hours and didn't even notice for another hour. It just wasn't a clear story or really all that compelling.
"Educational and entertaining"
My 15 year old son and I have been listening to this during our recent travels. I had read about some folks being bothered by the narrator, but we were not at all. The book is such an adventure, has so many funny and ridiculous and heartbreaking moments, but it is never dull. I love the range of characters - even within just 1 family. We highly recommend it.
