The narrator is good at changing her voice for various characters, that really helps make a book better. Some are not so good in this realm... enjoyed hearing about all of the "goodies" she makes/bakes. Love the idea of that "little box".... hummm... keeps me downloading the next book and that's probably Connie's intention, think? lol

There's just enough of "the box" and a few mysteries to make it interesting and she has a good voice herself, throughout, good narrator, period!

Simple reading, really, but interesting and I don't have to sit down to listen, I can multi-task :-) I can listen and clean or cook at the same time. Can't do bookwork but I can do other things.

I did figure out one thing early on in the book and the killer about 1 hour prior to the writer "showing her hand" but still, it was interesting, listening to her tell about her shop and baking etc., somehow, just enjoyed that part too even though it wasn't "mysterious", go figure. Guess it was just how she presents that part maybe?

I've read better/more mysterious but this fits that "certain criteria" that makes it good!

    Nice Cozy Mystery!

If you could sum up Glazed Murder: A Donut Shop Mystery in three words, what would they be?

    It was okay

What other book might you compare Glazed Murder: A Donut Shop Mystery to and why?

Other cozy mysteries but others were quite a bit better.

Did Linda Bloom do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Fairly well, she changed her voice to some degree but I've heard better narrators. Her voice just seemed, what's a good word.... ummm.... plain maybe? I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was just that the book wasn't exciting enough, fairly good book but no anticipation? Difficult to explain. Read it yourself and see. Love to see other reviews of this book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it wasn't that type of book

    Any additional comments?

I've read better cozy mysteries. A bit too simple, not really the kind of book that makes you anxious to "get back to it"... I did keep reading and it was okay but not a great book. Just seemed much too simple, no excitement, nothing kept me really enthralled and anxious to "turn the page", if you will.

Ellen O’Farrell is a bit unusual. She’s a hypnotherapist. She’s never met her father. And she can’t seem to keep a relationship going. (Okay, that’s more normal that we want to admit.) When Ellen meets Patrick, she’s hopeful nevertheless. But when he says he needs to tell her something, she fears the worst. When Patrick reveals that his ex-girlfriend is stalking him, Ellen thinks, "Is that all?" She’s more intrigued than frightened. She’d love to meet her. What she doesn’t know is that she already has.

If you could sum up The Hypnotist's Love Story in three words, what would they be?

    had me fooled...

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Hypnotist's Love Story?

    none in particular

What three words best describe Tamara Lovatt Smith’s voice?

    pleasing but ...

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no, it did hold my interest but.... (again)

    Any additional comments?

yes! additional comments.... it WAS interesting all the way through, and here's my "BUT"... I was so sure there was a plot or going to be a surprising ending but it ended rather dull... kind of began to expect it when there was only 1 hour left and that disappointed me.

To the narrator's voice, pleasing as it was, I found it disappointing again in this area as when she changed from one of the 2 key players to the other, in the book, she didn't change her voice and because I was listening to it on and off (I can't sit and listen to a book in full, too busy) I wouldn't realize which character was talking until I listened for a minute. Therefore, I didn't know where I was or what was happening where I'd left off and especially when it changed characters, if I'd stopped it at the end of a chapter or in a place when it "seemed to end in a good place, where I could quit for now and pick back up later"... small complaints? Maybe so but I just found these things not to my liking. Maybe I'm too use to my "cozy mysteries".

All in all, it's worth reading, don't NOT read it because of my review, it did keep me reading but I suppose it's because I thought something BIG was right around the corner and it never was.

Thank you for reading my review and I hope it was helpful.

Where does Brownies and Broomsticks rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Just right! Not too deep so I had to think real hard, not a lot of magic to make it too strange but just enough, I like a little magic... and just plain o enjoyable! A nice "cozy" mystery. Wish there were more than 3 books in this series. OH, and the narration is very good as well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Brownies and Broomsticks?

I'm sure there were some but read it a while ago and can't recall just now.

Which character – as performed by Johanna Parker – was your favorite?

    All were good, no favorite

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I guess, if I'd had time I wouldn't have minded, it's one of the better "magic" type books I've read...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I would have rated this book 5***** had it not been for the narrator. Others mentioned the "smacking" sounds and honestly, it really bothered me. I couldn't wait to finish it and because it was interesting and a great mystery, I DID finish listening to completion but otherwise I would definitely have not. I can't figure out HOW she made so many odd "mouth noises".... whoa!! I didn't think it would bother me so even though I'd read the other reviews with similar remarks, I thought "that won't bother me", WILL IT DID!! BIG TIME!!

    Any additional comments?

If you think you can get by the mouth sounds, buy it, it's a very good mystery.

Yes, after a few years... It's just my kinda book! No swearing which shows to me, this writer can make ALL of her points by using language that is intelligent... very interesting with twists and turns and held my interest throughout it's entirety.

What was one of the most memorable moments of I'll Walk Alone?

Have you listened to any of Jan Maxwell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Compares very well to her other "reads", she's very, very good...

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Would you consider the audio edition of Outlander to be better than the print version?

    I didn't read the book

What other book might you compare Outlander to and why?

I really can't compare another to this as audible is so different than actually reading the printed word.

Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not but it came VERY highly recommended to me

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I'm not really done with this book as yet but it's all been very good.... thus far though, I would like to say, I like the fact that love scenes are done so discretely

    Any additional comments?

The only thing I might like to add (and I'm more than half done with the book) is the fact that I do feel a little bit less detail might be better. It can be boring listening to how "material feels" or how a leaf looks, etc. etc. when it really isn't important to the storyline. I could do with a little less and yes, the book would not be as many hours listening but it's a bit too descriptive in quite a few areas for me. That's just my taste however so don't "not" read it because of my opinion on that small point. It's a great story and honestly, the presentation is phenomenal!
