"Terrible!"
It needed a better story line. There was no depth to the story or characters. It was too rideculous and I regret purchasing it.
Yes.
Made the heroine sound whiney and stupid.
All of them.
Terrible book. Just awful.
"Absolutely the best book of our time!!!!"
I have bragged about this book to everyone! Give it a chance! I smiled more while I listened to it. I even giggled out loud with excitement at a few parts. The narrarator made the book come to life with the different accents and with such recognizable emotion in his tone. I can easily say this is one of my favorite books.
"Awesome. Better than I expected."
I enjoyed listening to this book more than any novel in my library. It was extremely close to the real life history of Marie Antoinette and the Versailles Court. I learned quite a bit about this period in history just from this novel.
"Hated it."
To sum it up in one word. Mush. I had to turn it off several times before finishing it. My eyes hurt from rolling them so much with this one. It's dissappointing because usually Julie Garwood writes such wonderful historical romances. She is in fact the reason why I got into reading romance novels. The narrator was horrible as well. Very drool and computer like.
"Very informative! Best History. It's wonderful."
Very informative and very interesting at the same time. There is an overflow of interesting information about Marie Antoinette and those close who were close to her that isn't well known. Alot of scandal and juicy details. It's hard to believe that this all really happened. There is a lot of reference information dropped causually, which adds to the credability of the book. Antonia Fraser did an excellant job helping the reader/listenter comprehend the complexity of the subject without losing interest. Infact, at times it's jaw dropping. The narrator is perfect for the job. Very well spoken and uses different accents in order help imagine the people she spoke of.
"Crap. Absolute Crap."
Don't waste your money on this. There is absolutely no action or real feel of romance. It makes no sense, and it's an insult to Jane Austen! If you like Vampire stories you'll be dissappointed as well. If your interested in a story with depth, forget it. It's all mush with no sincere or practical emotion. The character's are completely re-written in an annoying way. Darcy is a torn jerk, Elizabeth's a whiney girl with no backbone. It's repetitive. It's crap.
