Miranda O'Connell has just made a dangerous bet with her mysterious, sexy music teacher that will change her life forever. She doesn't know Claudio du Fresne is a vampire who keeps human submissives as feeders and sex slaves, or that he is quick to punish with a sound spanking. Or that he has secretly brought his ruthless brother in on the bet.

This book seems to be have been written as much for members of the BDSM community as for vampire erotica fans. The author could have left the vampires out altogether and this would still have been a rather good tale of a curious young woman's introduction into the BDSM community. If you want bedroom philosophy and a tutorial in slave training, you'll enjoy this.

The companions believe they have slain the evil Dragon Highlord Verminaard. They have rescued the refugees from Pax Tharkas and taken them to a valley in the Kharolis mountains.

I loved these books in high school, some 25 years ago. Catching up with Tass and Tanis and the gang again was like a homecoming for me. So maybe my love of this book is colored by nostalgia. Still, it was the great adventure romp now that it was then. Sure, it's light reading that just makes you smile. But that's what I want from AD&D books. Tass' voice took some getting used to, but that could just be because it didn't match the one in my head when I first met him a quarter a century ago.

Twelve American tourists join an art expedition that begins in the Himalayan foothills of China - dubbed the true Shangri-La - and heads south into the jungles of Burma. But after the mysterious death of their tour leader, the carefully laid plans fall apart, and disharmony breaks out among the pleasure-seekers.

I'll admit I had to fight the instinct to skip over all of Amy Tan's work as being "chick fiction," but I'm glad I didn't. The characterization and storytelling is rich and developed. The story is amusing and it truly does feel as if the reader is being told a story. As for Amy Tan's voice, the Asian and California accents are spot on and I found her tone conversational, which made the novel more enjoyable ... as if I were being told a story by someone who had been there.
