"A Modern Christmas Classic"
Favorite Christmas Story
A Christmas Carol because it is about a grumpy old grouch finally getting the Christmas Spirit.
Who better to play an old Grinch than a Grumpy Old Man?!
Definitely, especially in front of the Christmas tree with some hot cocoa and cookies.
"What an apt title!"
I have many times. It's just so entertaining and it is a clean enough story that you can listen with your pre-teen daughter. She loved it, too.
Stephanie, of course. Who else!?
Not that I know of. I don't pay a lot of attention to the names of the performers. I enjoy it more when they make the character come to life. Lori did just that.
When she walks into the bail bond shop and decides to become a bounty hunter. You can just picture it so clearly!
"Best Way to Hear the Good News"
At the top-it is a true performance!
The actors really bring the story to life.
That would have to be the main character Jesus but Peter was great too!
It's not possible to absorb it all in one sitting. It needs to be savored slowly and with lots of self-reflection.
"Laughed so hard I cried"
This was my first exposure to George Lopez and Carlos Mencia. I'm so glad that I found them. It made me a lifelong fan. I also could identify with the family.
I wouldn't compare it to any other book. The closest comparison is to a Comedy Central Stand-Ups special. It is the funniest of the funnys.
I couldn't pick just one scene.
Best way to spend a road trip!
"Keeps You On the Edge of Your Seats"
Yes, it brings the characters to life. I found myself holding my breath at certain points.
Not one book in particular, but it's style is closest to Mary Higgins Clark's novels.
No
The climax was intense!. I stopped my housework and stood and just listened. My surroundings disappeared and I was there yelling for the heroine to get out of there!
"Slow in Parts but an Interesting listen"
I listened while cleaning and it made the job less tedious so it served it's purpose. This book was not as enthralling as other books, but it did entertain.
It was predictable.
Perfect fit overall
Yes, for the purpose I was listening. I don't know if it would be the same if I listened to it while driving. It was sleepy in parts.
"A Story My Daughter and I Could Both Agree ON"
I loved this book because both my daughter and I could enjoy it together. Usually on trips we would argue about the books to listen to. She always wants to listen to a girly, silly story and I want mystery. This book had both.
It would be close to Wizard of Oz with elements of Grimm's Fairytales.
Almasy really brings the characters to life. Her voice is very pleasant and intriguing. It fit the story perfectly.
Yes, but our trip was shorter so we ended up staying up late that night and finishing it before we went to bed.
"Gordon Ramsay Revealed"
Gordon Ramsay is so much more than his over-bearing, sometimes caustic personality. Listening to his story gave an understanding of why he is so driven and holds such high expectations. It also shows that he has just as big a heart as his personality.
He lets us in to so much of his early personal life. His issues with his dad and how that shaped who he became spoke to me.
He is so kind of a person and that doesn't always come through when you watch his shows. Also, that he is such a strong person who has overcome adversity to come out on top.
I was lucky enough to be on a road trip and could listen to it in one sitting. I didn't stop as often as I normally would because I wanted to finish it.
"Better than Kitchen Confidential"
I have listened to Medium Raw several times already and love it each time I listen to it. Bourdain's acerbic wit entertains me. Plus I loved the glimpse of his childhood.
It is very much like his first book Kitchen Confidential but instead of talking about his experience as a young chef, it gives glimpses into his childhood that really allow you to understand what went in to making his unique wit and story-telling abilities.
My favorite part was a visit to one of his uncles who was an oyster harvester (do you call that fisherman?) and the description of his first taste of raw oyster. I laughed so hard I nearly ran off the road!!
There was one part that didn't move me so much as made me nostalgic. That part was when his parents leave him in the car with his brother to read Tin-Tin while they went and enjoyed a gourmet meal. His response to it is very much like my own. He determines that he is going to eat whatever is put before him from now on without complaint.
