After a shootout claims the life of his partner in a condemned tenement building on Pearl Street, Detective John Tallow unwittingly stumbles across an apartment stacked high with guns. When examined, each weapon leads to a different, previously unsolved murder. Someone has been killing people for 20 years or more and storing the weapons together for some inexplicable purpose. Confronted with the sudden emergence of hundreds of unsolved homicides, Tallow soon discovers that he's walked into a veritable deal with the devil.

    Story

I typically hate stories with unlikeable and boring main characters. It's particularly bad when the reader is not very good. The reader uses the same voice for all characters and moves between them without pause. Only got a few hours into book before I ended the suffering.

Its cool gulf breezes lured him from a life of danger. Its dark undercurrents threatened to destroy him. After 10 years of living life on the edge, it was hard for Doc Ford to get that addiction to danger out of his system. But spending each day watching the sun melt into Dinkins Bay and the moon rise over the mangrove trees, cooking dinner for his beautiful neighbor, and dispensing advice to the locals over a cold beer lulled him into letting his guard down.

Don't know why I thought this series would be a bit cheesy, but often many ones based in Florida are. However Doc Ford is fun, has some hard action, has great characters, and gives you a lot to think about. This is my first Doc Ford but it won't be my last.

    Story

Fun story to pass the time but nothing to great. The Characters aren't very developed, the back stories are not very deep, and the story is relatively predictable. What makes it fun is the scenario of taking places in the subways of Manhattan, the main character's dog, and the cat vs mouse portion. Reader was OK.

What makes a legendary assassin? For John Rain, it was the lessons of love, war, and betrayal he learned in Tokyo in 1972. Fresh from the killing fields of Southeast Asia, Rain works as a bagman under the watchful eye of his CIA handler, delivering cash to corrupt elements of the Japanese government. But when a delivery goes violently wrong, Rain finds himself in the crosshairs of Japan’s most powerful yakuza clan.

    Story

Another fun John Rain Story but this one takes place when he is 20 and just out of Vietnam. This book is a good stand alone to the series. I didn't like it as much as his others because the character being "young" didn't have much depth, didn't have any special tools, tech, or cool partners and such but it was still a lot of fun.

As always the character kills a bit to easily and often. You want to like him because he is not evil but his rush to kill to solve problems often eliminates "good guys" or civilians that make you feel the opposite. Barry Eisler makes it all feel to real plus he makes you afraid of the people that are supposed to be protecting us. Mr. Eisler does such a good job that he should be brought into questioning every time there is a unsolved murder in his vicinity.

Barry is also a great reader for his books. Great addition to his collection.

Their research will revolutionize the field of physics - the crowning achievement of a career. Grady expects widespread acclaim for his entire team. The Nobel Prize. First of all the book is a lot of fun and it went quick. The premise was a bit too hard to believe (for science fiction that is saying a lot) and therefore not as hard hitting as his earlier books... which are even more fun. However if you like a science fiction thrill ride, lots of action, fun characters, and a "page turner" then get it. Great Reader.

Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Great book. Johnny Depp is not the best reader but he fits as "Keith's Voice". Learned you can't judge a book by its cover as they say. Keith is deeper, more interesting, and more of a character than I ever thought.

Fun thriller with some hedge fund action thrown in. Kept me glued to my headphones. However the Characters were a bit wooden. Hedge fund manager way too nice and straight lace for a trader. His ex FBI agent to dedicated, not jaded at all working in law enforcement, and actually prays to J. Edgar... come on. Great reader.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

    Story

Don't listen to those that say Grisham has not been this good since the 90's. He has always been awesome, he continues to grow with each book he writes, and he continues to surprise and educate. Actually this novel is his first adult book to continue one of his earlier books. In this case he continues "A Time to Kill" which was his first novel, the one I liked the least, and the one least Grisham-like.

Luckily the Grisham style is in full swing in his latest. His story shares some plot from earlier novels... the rural south (pretty common in most of his books), the will of a man who hates all his relatives and leaves the money to a outsider, and the slimy underside of the legal profession. However unlike his first novel, this has more energy, moves along much faster, and the characters are more enjoyable. Another Grisham not to miss.

Precious Ramotswe has taken on two puzzling cases. First, she is approached by the lawyer Mma Sheba, who is the executor of a deceased farmer’s estate. Mma Sheba has a feeling that the young man who has stepped forward may be falsely impersonating the farmer’s nephew in order to claim his inheritance. Mma Ramotswe agrees to visit the farm and find out what she can about the self-professed nephew. Then the proprietor of the Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon comes to Mma Ramotswe for advice.

    Story

After the first couple of books in the series one only reads them for the characters because there are little or now mysteries. However the characters, Africa, and the life of simple pleasure and morals make it a life affirming read. The reader is the same for all books and is always out-of-this-world perfect.

My only warning if you are considering the series start at the beginning. My wish for the author would be to put a bit more mystery back into the books although he probably knows people like me are addicted to his characters. I'm typically a guy that likes thrillers, with lots of violence and action. There is none of that in these books but Precious, the main character, is my guilty pleasure.
