Yes, Peterson did a great job blending all the scenes together. The suspense of the gun battles, being on the run, and the mysteries behind the characters combined together to provide a great balance that made it hard to stop listening.

The best part was the overall storyline in this novel. It was creative and had plenty of twist and action especially in the second half.The least part I liked was the inclusion of the dark killings such as torturing cilivians. I frankly could have overlooked in the first time but it was reoccuring theme throughout. Plus, it didn't really fit. What politician would hire a sadistic killer to covertly monitor and take out targets without raising any attention? The driveby shooting on Pike was the most ridiclous idea to fit their objectives. There were other inconsisent things like the bugging of ultra-top secret government issued devices. Which in my opinion was also very stupid in the long run. If found, it would eventually be led back to the source. I could go on and on but hopefully you get the generally idea.

This is the first and only book of his I've read. I may get the second one in this series but haven't decided yet.

This is the first time listening to male narrators and I didn't care for it. Part of annoyance with the characters in the first half of the book may have been in part due to the narration.

Well, since movies rarely have the same content as the book version. Yes, if the main two characters and the major overall plot were the same or close to it.

If you having or had trouble listening to the first half of the book, stick with it or skip to the second half. The second half was good and worth gritting my teeth through the first part.If you are seeking romance, then don't bother with this book. In fact, the brutal violence throughout the novel will probably give you nightmares if you were hoping this was a romance novel.

I'm glad David Weber finally tied all the spinoff series back into the main Honor Harrington series.

I'm glad Honor and the treecats had important parts in the series again.

Elizabeth, Empress of Manticore

No, unfortunately it felt like Weber rushed through or abruptly ended many of the events or scenes that could of had a major impact on the readers. If I remember correctly its happened in previous novels of his too. The best example in this novel was the battle in the Manticore system when the Solarian League attempted to force the Manticoren Empire into surrendering. As soon as the battle started, the scene ended and went into the effect the one sided battle had on everyone.

Most of this novel is cause and effect. There would be an event (usually a short scene) and then there would be the effect which would be reflected by multiple viewpoints from various characters all over the galaxy. Frankly, I was disappointed once again due to fact there was only one actual space battle but plenty of dialog from many characters all concerning the same subject matter. Despite being on the brink of war, the fact that the tech is one sided and the battles will be just opportunistic ambushes might just led the series away from the military sci-fi genre for good. However, it may not matter since the series is probably almost finished anyway.

Belastaia is a good new character. I love the interaction between Belastaia and Kaylin at the end of the novel. I'm looking forward to a great heroine duo in future additions in the series.
