Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genuis, and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the fairies of bedtime stories, they're dangerous! Full of unexpected twists and turns, Artemis Fowl is a riveting, magical adventure.

    "Super entertaining"
    Overall

This was an all around perfect listen. If you are looking for something light and entertaining that will make you chuckle at times, this one should meet the mark.
The narrator does an excellent job of entertaining during the read.
The story is excellent but light, creative and fast moving.
I highly recommend it. It would be a great listen during a family drive with mid-age kids 5 to 15.

Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world. Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours.

This was a pleasant read. I kept imagining my daughter listening to it in a few years. She will love it. I enjoyed the listen myself but felt it was a little simple for the storyline and am not compelled to listen to the sequel. The narrator did an excellent job and I will seek out her other reads.

It is not long before the survivors, outlaws, renegades, and carrion eaters start to gather, picking over the bones of the dead and fighting for the spoils of the soon-to-be dead. Now in the Seven Kingdoms, as the human crows assemble over a banquet of ashes, daring new plots and dangerous new alliances are formed, while surprising faces, some familiar, others only just appearing, are seen emerging from an ominous twilight of past struggles and chaos to take up the challenges ahead.

    "Great!"

I was also thrown back by the change in narrator, but after a chapter or so, I was into the story and the change wasn't that bad.
Not that the narrator was very good. He read one sentance in a very passive voice, followed by "he exclaimed". This is exactly what makes a narrator fall into the "he sux" category.
The story, on the other hand, was great. I don't mind that it was only half the story, it was quality and definitely long. Another book in the series is like icing on the cake.

Le Show is a program of satire, humor, and commentary about the week's news. Comedy sketches written and performed by multi-talented multimedia artist Harry Shearer, interwoven with an eclectic, ever-changing blend of music; from world to pop, soul to jazz. Shearer says about Le Show, "I do it because I don't do standup, and I don't do sitcoms, and the radio broadcast enables me to do what I think is funny in a broadcast medium without having to listen either to network executives or Canadian producers."

Oh gawd this was bad. If you enjoy some fool bantering on and on about others, you'll enjoy this one. I would be better entertained hanging out listening to the gossip at the local salon!

  • The Great Hunt: Book Two of The Wheel Of Time

The Wheel of Time turns and ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave it birth returns again. For centuries, gleemen have told the tales of The Great Hunt of the Horn. So many tales about each of the Hunters, and so many Hunters to tell of. Now, the Horn itself is found: the Horn of Valere long thought only legend, the Horn which will raise the dead heroes of the ages.

Tony Deleeuw says: "Great Series, Great Readers"
    "I'm addicted!"
    Overall

I thought the first book was good! This one has me working my schedule to make listening a priority. After reading the first book and knowing there are twelve books in the series, I thought it must be twelve repeats of a good thing and it would get boring. Boy was I wrong so far... The author introduces so many new characters and ideas to the story that it leaves a vast amount of questions that no one book can provide answers for. I look forward to the adventures and experiences that will be provided in the next 10 volumes. I have actually contemplated shelling out whatever it would cost to buy all volumes now in one bunch. I think I'll check myself in to the clinic and get treatment - as long as they let me bring my audible player!!
By the way, the narrators do an excellent job, and boy, those voices... sexy!
Jordan is a genious and I am hooked!

"The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn.

    "Excellent!"
    Overall

This story pulled me in from the first few minutes. I felt addicted as I listened to it every time I had some free time. The story was great, though there were times the descriptions seemed a bit long. The reader did a great job also, using many differing tones for each character. I started to know who was talking just from the readers voice. Excellent all around.

Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk is a novel made up of stories: 23 of them, to be precise. Twenty-three of the most horrifying, hilarious, mind-blowing, stomach-churning tales you'll ever encounter, sometimes all at once. They are told by people who have answered an ad headlined "Writers' Retreat: Abandon Your Life for Three Months", and who are led to believe that here they will leave behind all the distractions of "real life" that are keeping them from creating the masterpiece that is in them.

Dominique says: "True Horror -- Not for the faint of heart, stomach"
"Not worth money, good thing it was free."
    Overall

Yuck! I have young children and, with that in mind, could not finish this one. That's all I'll say about the story.
As well, the reader sounded like she had a lisp. It was very distracting and this book did not need any more negatives, believe me. Delete...
