"Wonderful story."
I love 20 hour books and this book does not disappoint. You get drawn in from the beginning, and stay to the end. My favorate character is the "villian", the book goes into his past helping you understand actions. After listening to well over 100 audio books I can say this ranks among the tops on my list.
I only wish he would continue the story, I was left wanting to know what is going to happen afterwards... Telling any more and I'd spoil the ending :-)
"A kinder more well adjusted Dresden"
I have listened to the entire Dresden series, and really enjoy the books. I read a review that compared the two series and I can see the strong similarities, if I had to say which is better I'd pick this one. The main character seems more well adjust and grown up then Dresden. While Dresden's attitude and smart-alack comments gives him his "charm", this main character seems sensible and down to earth and doesn't try to blow everything up. The plot did not have some of the deep twists and turns, it was still surprising and very enjoyable. The only think I do not like is the length, to me 8 hours is an abridged version. I prefer 10+ in a really good story, but I will purchase the rest of the series.
"Not the same old Alex Cross"
I have to agree with Sam to a certain extent, having Andre Braugher narrate make me feel like I'm in the middle of an episode of Homicide: Life on the Streets. I'm not sure what the reason is for changing narrators and hopefully this is not a permanent change, if so I may have to actually read any new Alex Cross books. The story was very enjoyable and left me wanting more. I have always enjoyed this series and cannot wait until the next one, hopefully I'll listen to it.
"The Ancient (Unabridged)"
R.A. Salvatore is a master of his craft, he is the Stephen King fanstay writing. This book shows how he weaves a story around several characters each with their own interesting tale to bring it all together to form a great story. As a reader of Forgotten Realms books for over a decade this audio book was a joy to listen to and I hated to hear this story end. If you are a lover of fantasy books this is a must have in your collection.
My only objection is that once you finish the book there are no more Salvatore books on Audible to listen to.
