The overall story. And how King has made it fit within today's religious ideology.
Stu Redman, the good guy and hero - one of them anyway.
Great animation and acted out voices of the different characters. Really enjoyed listening to his narration of the book.
The end, when the dog stayed to help stu.
Great story, I saw the movie years ago and wanted to listen to the book. I think the book is much better, although I now want to watch the movie again after listening to it. I understand that a new remake of the book is coming out in 2013 as a new movie. Should be interesting.
Absolutely loved it. Entertaining from the start to the finish. Highly recommend this to any listener. I am rating this as one of my best listened to audio books. Can't wait to get other books by this Author now. Narrator was excellent as well and made it even more entertaining. Thanks.
Can't stand the style of writing or possible plot. Gave up listening. Terrible book.
Don't waste your time with the movie, get the Audio book. Well worth it if you feel like a bit of Sci-fi.
Got on to this book after all the hype surrounding the NSA spying on everybody. Seems this Author had time traveled and gives us a very clear idea of what we can expect if we continue to allow governments to get away with this blatant abuse of power. I highly recommend this book to everybody in order to educate yourself on what tricks governments do to brainwash us. Its a book of fiction but sadly mirrors lots of what is happening today.
I really enjoyed this book and the following sequels. I usually pass these type of books up as not interested in the main topic (vampires). However this is not your ordinary vampire story. This puts an entirely new spin on vampires to the point of which they probably would be if ever real. Excellent characters and the book spans generations with some interesting outcomes.
The Remaining by D.J. Molles. Also worth a read. Not vampires but Zombies. Again, not a topic I usually listen too, but both of these Authors have come up with a unique portrayal of them. Very gripping.
Yes, Scott Brick is a great Narrator and is how I got onto this. I often search for books based on others I have listened to by the same narrator. He is very good.
Impossible, this book and the series are very long, but if I didn't need to eat, sleep and work I probably would have listened to it all in one go.
Don't let the topic of vampires put you off. Trust me, they're not vampires its not even close to vampires and thank god is absolutely nothing like twilight. This book is worth a read and would make an excellent mini series.
Must Read This
I compare this somewhat to The Passage by Justin Cronin which is a series I also highly recommend. The Passage is very similar in the way it is the end of all humanity by humans who also become infected by a virus although the Passage ends up being vampires not Zombies. The Vampire thing put me off to begin with but they are very weird and not like any other portrayal of them ever published. I like the similarity between these two books, hence why I got the recommendation to read this one. And it is pretty good.
He really makes this book enjoyable. Excellent voices for the different characters and even acts out things like noises of pain etc during any combat scenes. Very good narrator would certainly listen to others he has done.
Was sad during one part (won't spoil it here), but you will know if you listen to it. The part where he (the main character, Lee) is most sad.
Little disappointed the author didn't portray Lee as a more hardened Special Forces type of soldier. Would be good if he was more lethal and harder to beat down.
Somebody who is deaf would probably enjoy listening to this. Then again I am sure they would be happy to hear anything.
Have somebody else write it with different plot and certainly a different narrator too.
I couldn't bare listening to her whining on any more. Fingernails down a chalk board would be easier to listen to.
All characters should be removed.
Ok, so this one just wasn't for me. Wouldn't mind a refund but have a feeling that feature is now missing from the website. Nice one am Amazon, look at how much I spend with you.
I will sum up this book as... Well I can't really post what I want to say here. But compared to my massive library of audible books, this is certainly the worst so far.
This is one of the best audio books I have listened to so far. Very long, but gripping the entire time.
Harvey Torretti, really liked his casual style and could just imagine guys really being like him following the war. He was a no nonsense character that always came through.
Yes, I have. And he is really good. Often when I find a good narrator I will listen to other books they have narrated. 9 times out of 10 I find another winning series of books to listen to.
This would only spoil the novel for anybody listening to it. So no comment, but there is one part which is very sad.
Great book. You have to listen this one. I believe this should fit in the category of books that are a must read. I have since ordered the DVD mini series based on this novel.
I loved the fact that the story is narrated from the human and dog perspective. Great having to narrators. The dog had such a great personality and seemed very real to understand his thoughts.
Chance, the dog. I love dogs and understood his explanation of how he interpreted things.
I think the narrators names are confusing. Pretty sure both narrators where guys. But either way, they were both great.
Ok, i'll admit it. I got totally emotionally hoked on this one. The author did an amazing job of taking you on a journey that was full of highs and lows. I'm not afraid to admit as a grown man and truck driver, this did bring a tear to my eye. The message within the book is something everybody could learn from. It shows humanity at its worst and its best. A true book for dog lovers no matter who you are.
I guarantee, that if you listen to this, you will not be disappointed. Once I started listening to this I literally could not stop.
Too slow to get going. Narrator was useless, hard to tell who was who. Never finished the book just couldn't get into it. I think after having listened to Michael Connelly's and Lee Child's books I now have high expectations of other authors. Really tried to get into this, but started to fall asleep. Far to slow. I wish Michael Connelly had more I could listen too but have got them all already.
Anything but James Patterson.
Narrator could have used a better variation of voices. Seemed a bit mono tone for me.
Alex Cross. Get rid of him. Boring.
Annoyed. I was hoping this author would have given me another series to get into. But alas, too slow for me. shame,.
