  • Delusion In Death: In Death, Book 35

    Story

It was just another after-work happy-hour bar downtown, where business professionals unwound with a few drinks, complained about the boss, maybe hooked up with someone for the night. Until something went terribly wrong. At first it was just a friction in the air. The noise intensified. The crowd seemed oppressive. Some sharp words were exchanged, some pushing and shoving. Then the madness descended. And after 12 minutes of chaos and violence, 80 people lay dead.

Lisa says: "Robb, Dallas & Ericksen - what a Fantastic Combo"

Where does Delusion In Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've listened to many of the J.D.Robb audiobooks and have liked all of them, so it's rather difficult to place it in a slot - all of these books are excellent. When you hear one, it's hard not to keep getting them!

What other book might you compare Delusion In Death to and why?

Along with J.D.Robb, I listen to Grisham and other mystery-detective-type audiobooks.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to many of Susan Ericksen's performances with the J.D.Robb books, and they are all quite good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would have been nice, but not very practical.

    Any additional comments?

I listen to audiobooks when I'm on the road, because they keep me alert, and I'm able to pay attention to the traffic while I'm listening. I don't listen to self-help or learning audiobooks when I travel; just fiction. The J.D.Robb series is excellent for traveling.

A New York Times best-selling author and multiple Bram Stoker Award winner, Marvel Comics writer Jonathan Maberry continues the story he began in Rot and Ruin. Six months have passed since Benny Imura and Nix Riley learned that flesh-eating zombies aren’t the scariest or most dangerous monsters around. Now, Benny’s brother Tom is training them in the art of zombie whacking. But as they plan to leave and find a better future, a zombie attack puts a crimp in their plans.

CRISTY says: "Hutchison's narration (once again) is excellent!"
    "Interesting"

When I started this audible book, my thoughts were it was for a younger listener, but I heard it through. Good narrator and decent story. I may continue with others to see how the story evolves. Not the best I've heard but no way near the worst...

Where does Betrayal in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I thoroughly enjoy the J D Robb book series, and they are ones I'll either read and/or listen to first.

What did you like best about this story?

As with all the books in this series, there are plots, twists and turns. The ending is going to be the same, but the getting to the end is excellent.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Susan Ericksen brings the voice to the books; I don't know of another narrator that be as good as she is with this series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No.

When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

What made the experience of listening to Sandman Slim the most enjoyable?

It wasn't of a genre that I typically read or listen to, but I enjoyed the telling of it.

What other book might you compare Sandman Slim to and why?

I don't believe I've read or listened to any that would compare to this book.

Have you listened to any of MacLeod Andrews’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first one of MacLeod Andrews narrations that I've heard, so I really have nothing to compare it to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would like to listen to each audible book at one time, but that's not really possible. So, the fact that this was easily picked back up when I turned it on was a positive experience.

It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore. After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes.

Where does New York to Dallas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

All of the books by J D Robb are at the top of my list of enjoyable books - read or listened to.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

There is always a common thread through the books, as well as twists and turns along the way; it's entertaining!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I believe Susan Ericksen's reading of the J D Robb books are the only time I've listened to her, but I wouldn't appreciate anyone else as much. She does a fantastic job.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Neither.
