"Engrossing"
Crisp writing. Interesting world. Excellent characters. Great narration. I agree completely with the review by Diana of Norfolk 5-30-11. Both Dave and I really enjoyed this book. We downloaded this book during a sale in which the entire series is on sale. The series has 11 books on sale - we enjoyed them enough to buy them all now. We have audio books from 436 authors (over 800 books) and are always looking for new favorite authors so we are adding Singh to our daily watch list and will be trying out her other audible series - Guild Hunter.
"Not as grim as Book 1 and Book 2"
Per my reviews for the first 2 books in this series I find this series a bit too grim for children. This 3rd part is not as gruesome but has several wonderful characters killed. For readers that found the death of Dumbledore in Harry Potter as disturbing as I did, this book has similar situations. This 3rd book contains the result of the time traveling in the series causing "Time Quakes" in which the world is being ripped apart. The narrator for the series is excellent. The historical details regarding Washington crossing the Delaware are well handled and add an interesting twist to the storyline. One discrepancy I found annoying was that one of the bad guys is able to jump back and forth between London and NY without any explanation. This major plot problem caused my rating to drop from 3 to 2 stars.
"Warning - Too Grim for Kids"
The main character in this book is a 12 girl but as the story takes place primarily in 1792 the grim reality of the time period is inappropriate for children. This book contains very realistic descriptions of the French Revolution. Avoid this book for children but enjoy it if you are an adult.
"Warning - Too Grim for Kids"
The main characters in this book are a 12 year old boy and girl but as the story takes place primarily in 1763 the grim reality of the time period is inappropriate for children. This book contains very realistic descriptions of poverty, cruelty and other gruesome descriptions of life in this primitive century. Avoid this book this book for children but enjoy it if you read it as an adult. Interesting real characters such as Queen Charlotte and children with deadly diseases such as scrofula (TB) add gruesome reality.
"Engrossing Light Thriller"
As I have a weak stomach I tend to avoid thrillers but I am glad I read this one. Great action without gruesome violence. Storyline : 18 years ago, a group of men killed Regan's boyfriend and tried to kidnap her baby daughter, Kelsey. Regan made sure they were trained to defend themselves as well as prepared to drop everything and flee at a moments notice. Kelsey goes away to college and has her first semblance of a normal life. She bonds with her roommate Van and gets her first boyfriend Tom. Being away from her mom she starts to think her mom may be a little nuts until she gets phone call from her to RUN. Kelsey flees with roommate Van and boyfriend Tom barely escaping the man she spots getting into her dorm. Excellent chase scenarios. She finally meets up with mom and neighbor Tyler who helped Regan escape from the hospital. Regan is not sure if she can trust Tyler as he admits to knowing why men are trying to kill her and kidnap her daughter but refuses to tell her how he knows. Is he involved with her enemies? Can she trust him? Is he the reason the bad guys keep finding them? Kathy
"2 in 1 - Wonderful variation of old favorite"
Scalzi took an old favorite and made it better. With the blessing of the family of H. Beam Piper, a re-imagined version of "Little Fuzzy" is even better. More story about the Fuzzies and less time in the courtroom. Wonderful narration by Will Wheaton. Part 2 of this download is the unabridged "Little Fuzzy" book. Both books contain the story of Jack, a prospector on a mining planet who befriends a small furry creature who is very smart. When Jack tells his friends that the creature is sentient the trouble starts. The mining contract "the company" has for the planet is only valid if the planet does not have a sentient native species. The company works to wipe them out before it can be proved in court that they are sentient. The new version is funnier and sadder than the original.
"Great Fun and Novel SF Storyline"
Very Funny - Great Narration by Will Wheaton. An agent to the stars finds himself with a very unusual client. An alien wants to meet humans without having them freakout when they meet his stinky jelly form. Agent must think out of the box to create an image that will smooth way.
"Read Night Huntress World BEFORE this one -"
If you are working your way through the Night Huntress series, download and listen to Night Huntress World - First Drop of Blood before you read this book (5). This book 5 refers to things that happened in the Night Huntress World series. I have just started the World books and will update this review with more details when I am done. I really enjoy this narrator - maybe my favorite ever (We have over 1,000 Audible books - we buy and listen to 20-30 books per month). More later - Kathy
"Read Before Night Huntress #5 This Side of Grave"
