"Thoroughly Captivating And Engrossing"
This candidly written autobiography, read by two of the most dynamic and politically engaged theatre talents of our time, is so interesting, so entertainingly read, that you can't put it down. The chapters are alternately read by each actor, first describing their individual childhoods, family circumstances, education, and early work in the theatre, and later, providing alternate perspectives on events throughout the course of their married life and groundbreaking careers. And what remarkable lives they had! What talents! Each volume of "With Ossie And Ruby" invites you into a captivating, insightful conversation between these incomparable long-time, intimate friends, leaving you amazed and eager to hear more.
"Best of all, it's NARRATED by Teri Garr, herself!"
Just listening to dancer/actress/mother/ambassador/chair, Teri Garr, chronicle her childhood and career in her own words, unabridged and punctuated by her own sense of humor, would have been a great way to spend a few hours. And it was! But you get so much more out of this audiobook. This woman has an admirable disposition toward life-- an appreciation of family, hard work, humor, and close friendship that could only lead her to succeed at anything she focuses her attention on. The audiobook is so upbeat, candid, and entertaining that it was as therapeutic as 6 hours out with your best girlfriends. You hear a lot of good stories, you learn some lessons vicariously, and you get inspired to go out and bite the world in the butt. I had so much fun, the minuted it ended, I listened to it all over again. And it was just as much fun the second time! Do yourself a favor: get this audiobook. Then join me in writing Teri Garr a fan letter.
"Enthralling!"
I bought this book at full price, and as the read began, felt certain I had made a huge mistake. Contrary to the very misleading description given for this item, 98% of the voices of the celebrity narrators listed-- including Robert Altman, himself --are fudged by 3-4 professional audiobook readers, NOT contributed by the actors, directors and producers themselves. The listing of narrators certainly should be changed to protect buyers.
Nevertheless, this is a great audiobook, fully captivating, throughout every one of its 18+ hours. In fact, I liked it so much, that the minute it ended, I played it again, start to finish. It is that insightful, informative and entertaining. The actual voices of Altman's wife, Kathryn, and those of his daughters and sons, along with the stunningly good portrayal of Robert Altman's voice by actor, Michael Murphy, are well worth the price of admission. If you weren't an Altman fan before, this will make you want to rent each of his movies in turn, to experience what you've missed of his extraordinary talent on screen. There will never be another like him and he is missed!
"Why No UNabridged Version?"
This book is as great a listen as the hardcover was to read. And that's saying a LOT for an abridged version of ANYthing. All the credit for that goes to Irvine Welsh.
Why is there no UNabridged version of this book offered through Audible? What kind of reader needs an abridgment of a book? If you care enough to bother to buy a book, then you should care enough to experience the work as it was created by the author, not as some punked-down, arbitrary edit.
"Captivating Listening"
An amazing memoir read by two prominent actors with beautifully expressive voices--what more could you ask for? A wonderful book becomes a wonderful performance you'll listen to again and again.
