"Good End to Series"
I liked the dual storylines and how they played off each other. Sorry for the vagueness, I just don't want to give out any spoilers.
Lena never giving up on Ethan.
Ridley in the cage.
Is this the end?
I have really enjoyed this series and this book wraps up the series nicely. I have enjoyed the songs, which are so important to this series (Sorry, this is a bit generalized to the whole series.) I think this series is good for teens & adults. I've enjoyed it and I'm 40.
"Love the Story & Narration"
I think it's one of my all time favorites. It's one you can listen to over and over, be it to fall asleep at night (I'm an insomniac & tend to listen to books to fall asleep) or because you just want to listen to it.
I like when R & Julie are in R's "house", the airplane. All the things he's collected show he isn't just a mindless zombie.
R of course, but I also like Perry, when they are both conversing in R's head.
I'd answer, but I don't really want to spoil anything for people who haven't read/listened to it yet.
Keven Kenerly is awesome. I thought his name sounded familiar & I finally realized where I'd heard it before...in Ashland, Oregon at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He played Oberon in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (among many, many other roles). The man is a fantasic actor, which definitely carries over to his narration of books. I plan on looking up more books he's narrated because he is so good to listen to.
"Worst Narrator Ever"
Nothing. The narrator was the absolute worst on Audible, so bad I couldn't finish listening to it.
I will finish reading the book and adjust my rating accordingly. I rated it in all areas, as it wouldn't let me just rate the performance. I would hate to lower a score for an author's work because of a terrible narrator, which is why I gave it 4 stars.
The narrator was terrible. She speaks slow and in a monotone. I've never wanted to return a book because of a narrator until this one and I have over 300 books in my library. She is totally flat in speaking. There is no emotion. I think the Text to Speech feature on my Kindle could read this better, and that is pretty much the way this narrator read the book. Just reading the words and pausing at the end of the sentences. I had a hard time starting this book & thought maybe I could get into it more if I listened to it & that was a really bad idea.
I really can't think of anything nice to say about the narrator at all. Her voice was childish, on top of boring.
Save yourself & read the print version. this will be the first book I'm returning due to the poor worrk of the narrator.
"Even Better Than the Book"
Yes. The songs and sounds really enhance the listening experience, especially since it is such an integral part of the story.
It seemed like a fresh storyline. Not really witches, vampires or other popular horror/romance books. The characters aren't whiny as a lot in this genre.
I thought he did a great job with the voices and giving them all their unique accents/speaking patterns.
Great series. Good for teens and adults.
"Excellent Performance"
I got this book when I was very busy in school and this was one of our assigned plays for a scenic design class. I read the script along with reading at times, and listening to this gave me a better understanding of the storyline, more so than some of my classmates. B.D. Wong and John Lithgow gave a performance that made these characters to life and it could give you a picture in your head as to what would have been going on, on the stage.
"Asked Dr. Gerritsen About Pronunciation"
I really enjoyed this book. I had read reviews talking about the way the narrator pronounced Rizzoli as "Ritzoli" as I found it a tiny bit distracting as well. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Gerritsen at a book signing for her latest novel & mentioned the way the narrator pronounced it. She explained it as the way a Bostonian would pronounce it. Her example was "Hey..Ritzoli." and did it in the dialect like this narrator did. I would have preferred the narrator to stay in a regional dialect through out as that would have made it clearer to the listener. Anyway, after she said that, it made a lot more sense to me. If you like the TNT series, Rizzoli & Isles, this book as well as The Surgeon are combined for the pilot episode. I don't want to give anything away as I enjoyed both reading and listening to these books. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes police/medical examiner murder mysteries. One thing I loved from listening to Dr. Gerritsen was that she came up with the idea for this series from a suggestion from one of her readers at a book signing. The woman asked if she could do a book with murderers & kinky sex. It's always great to learn that authors do take in to consideration what their readers would like. I hope this clears up the pronounciation issues for any listeners who may have been put off by some of the reviews. She researches her books thoroughly and if there is something she wants in her books that she doesn't personally know, she does web, book & interviews with people in those fields of study to make sure the information she is putting in her books is as accurate as possible. And don't worry fans, I also expressed my dismay that The Surgeon is only available abridged, which she did not know. So, maybe if the future we will get an unabridged version of that book. Please give this series a try, you won't be sorry
