This is an amazing account of life in North Korea, right up to the last decade. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author balanced the accounts of multiple lives under the harsh regimes. It was well written and I would recommend it, except for the narrator. She narrated the entire book in a staccato that at times made me want to quit--except the stories were so compelling! A different narrator would make this book perfect. It's still a great read.
This is a great listen!! It helped me understand WWII so much better, but you have to be prepared to listen to War and Remembrance immediately after Winds of War. The way it's written really made this period of history come alive for me. Plus, the narrator made it come alive with his various character voices and pleasant voice. I thoroughly enjoyed these two books, even though it was a long listen!!!
Good clean Amish story in the typical Beverly Lewis tradition, with a good plot. I enjoyed the narrator too. She's pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed this book!
This is my first Kate Morton listen, but I will listen to more of her books. This is a great story with a great narrator. The narrator perfectly suited the story and made the story come alive as she changed voices for each character. The storyline moves with some unpredictable turns that keep you listening, treasuring every word. This mystery has a great ending. I'm so glad I chose it!
The author does a great job of retelling an amazing period of British history. I was hooked from the beginning and found it hard to put down. It's compelling and very well read with several narrators adding to the interest and intrigue. I highly recommend this!
I'd missed reading this book in school, but am so glad I listened to it now! Ten minutes into the book I was hooked. Every sentence is beautifully structured. The storyline is superb and keeps you hanging on. I could never predict what was coming next. I highly recommend this read!!!
This is a great read. I highly recommend it after Three Cups of Tea. I also found the female reader very distracting since it was written by Greg in the first person. Odd choice of a narrator!! But it is well written, enthralling, inspiring and hard to put down. I didn't want it to end.
The author does a beautiful job of describing his son's upbringing and subsequent drug addiction and how he struggled with it as a parent. He adds a lot of research from experts he interviewed as he walked this road. The author is very real, believable and transparent. He squarely faces the facts of life with an addict in the family. I recommend it to anyone going through similar circumstances.
The narrator is very pleasant to listen to and interprets the characters with excellent voices. It flows well, however it contains portions with a lot of French which really affected my understanding and enjoyment of the book. Charlotte Bronte's beautiful way of constructing her sentences is a lost art today.
The author does a great job of taking Barack Obama's voting record, speeches, and books Barack has written to show what Barack believes about the issues in this election. The issues that you never hear as he campaigns. It helped me clarify who he is and how important this election is.
