I really liked this one! Scary, interesting and very good. I want more!!! And the performance is excellent!

It is not at all the horror story I thought it was. It is a creepy, affectionate and beautiful story of insanity, loneliness and hatred. Merricat is one of the most fascinating literary characters I've met. It's very hard not to like her and feel sorry for her and at the same time there is an uncanny feeling about her. A must read!

I loved it, and can't wait for the next! An atmospheric and interesting crime story with many interesting and likable characters. Not the least interesting character - London in the victorian era.

I feel somewhat manipulated. This is not the kind of novel I usually read or listen to and I can't say I'm longing to read one again. BUT I couldn't stop. I wanted to know what was going on and what had happened. I liked that the novel has a small hint of literacy in it - that is that the main character is a novel. That said, it really isn't a very good novel. The characters are too stereotype and not very interesting. You never get to know them. The story promises a lot to begin with but doesn't keep its promise in the end. But, as I said, I couldnt stop...

Nope, not for me! I liked the idea very much. I love the old fairytales and read them over and over again when I was a child (still do sometimes) and often imagined myself to be a part in them. And I absolutely LOVED John Connolly's The Book of Lost Things (read this instedad). So I did have quite high expectations.

I never got involved in the story. The characters never came to life. I didn't really care what would happen to them. Somehow the story lacked the fantasticness and the fairytaleness. There are dwarfs, shape shifters, love, hate, loss, magic, and a lot of references to the Grimm brother's stories but to me it was just boring, uninteresting and kind of stiff.

Mind you, it had nothing to do with the performance.

It's not easy being 12 years old trying to understand what is happening around you when no one will tell you. Gwenni is a clever and imaginative child and wants to help, but so much goes wrong. She also wants to be a detective, trying to find out what happened to the missing man. In the little welsh town in the early fifties everyone knows about everything but do not talk about it - especially not to a young girl. It's a wonderful story and it is absolutely fantastic narrated. Sometimes there is a wonderful welsh singing in her voice which give the novel an extra dimension.
