Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

This isn't a work of Evolutionary Psychology, rather, it dismantles much of the BS that that field has been propagating.

Stephen King's second novel, Salem's Lot, is the story of a mundane town under siege from the forces of darkness. Considered one of the most terrifying vampire novels ever written, it cunningly probes the shadows of the human heart and the insular evils of small-town America.

Definitely worth the money. The last time I read Salem's Lot was almost twenty years ago. I downloaded it with some trepidation, fearing that I would come to hate a book that I'd loved when I was younger. I was thrilled to find that Stephen King's excellence at drawing out his characters was not a figment of my youthful imagination. My memories of King at his best are not about plot (although his plots are well handled), but characterization, and Salem's Lot does not disappoint on that front. And the narrator is very good, as well, handling both the distinctive voices of the characters and the distinctive Maine accent with good grace.
