The story was great, however it was difficult to follow due to the narrating. It sounded like Alvin the chipmunk speedreading after smoking several packs of ciggarettes. At times the voice was so low, that you couldn't understand what was being said and some sentences were too rushed. I love Elizabeth Lowell books, but this narrator is the worst I've ever heard.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this author having never read her, but this was a very nice surprise. It was just the right blend of romance and suspense. The narrator did a great job distinguishing the characters, so I wasn't trying to figure out who said what. Highly recommend this book. I'm listening to the 3rd book in this series now and so far it hasn't disappointed me.
This is hands down one of the best series I've listened to in a long time. While books 1-3 are about mere mortals I thought I might be turned off by the paranormal elements in books 4 & 5, but that wasn't the case. It was done with mastery by Maya Banks. The KGI series is worth the listen. I just wish that books 1 & 2 were at Audible as well. I can't wait for the next installment in the series.
This was a great book. I've listened to all 4 Hell's Eight books and loved every one of them. Hope Audible gets more Sarah McCarty books. The Promises series would be a good start. Can't wait for Shadow's Stand to come out.
