  • An Accidental Affair

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Eric Jerome Dickey
    • Narrated By Christopher Lane
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

James Thicke is a man whose mysterious past runs as deep as his violent streak. He’s channeled the intensity of his soul into twin passions - success as a screenwriter and marriage to movie actress Regina Baptiste. In the midst of filming his latest script, starring Regina and leading man Johnny Bergs, James receives a video of his wife caught in the most compromising of situations.

Sheba says: "A Great Story and a Great Read!"
    "One dimentional"
What disappointed you about An Accidental Affair?

How weak and unplausable the characters and plot was.

What could Eric Jerome Dickey have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Based the story in a more realistic plot. Not make us want to sympathise with characters that are richer and more beautiful than his readers. Not make us want to feel anything for a murderer, a narcicist, a (un-fleshed out) rich antagonist. make a stronger case for bring "driver and Panter" into the story.

What about Christopher Lane’s performance did you like?

He gave each character personality even though the characters, as written, had no depth.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from An Accidental Affair?

It was the cutting that destroyed the novel. There was not enough back story and motivation to drive each character to the extreme behavior they exibited.

    Any additional comments?

After reading the Gidion series I was waiting and dying for book 5, Not any more if he is just going to phone it in.

  • The Atopia Chronicles, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Matthew Mather
    • Narrated By Luke Daniels, Nick Podehl, Angela Dawe, and others

In the near future, to escape the crush and clutter of a packed and polluted Earth, the world’s elite flock to Atopia, an enormous corporate-owned artificial island in the Pacific Ocean. It is there that Dr. Patricia Killiam rushes to perfect the ultimate in virtual reality: a program to save the ravaged Earth from mankind’s insatiable appetite for natural resources.

    Amanda says: "Remarkable."
What did you love best about The Atopia Chronicles, Book 1?

The storyline was very unique and entertaining. The story shifted perspectives to different characters and the events of the story and the interaction of the characters with each other was very entertaining, I hope the author continues this with the next book in which I am waiting for anxiously. The science in this science-fiction was completely plausible. The amount of technical detail and scientific jargon was a little soft but only a little so it was still worth 4 stars.
Having so many narrators gave one a sense of the uniqueness of the many characters within the story and provided a sense of depth that I have not gotten from many previous audio books. The performance is a five star, If anyone knows of a better performed novel I would like to know.
Overall, one of the best books for me to date, one that I could go back and listen to more than a couple of times. While not having any sex or intimacy (graphic or otherwise) there is a strong emotional narrative that some may find “adult”. I recommend “Ready player one” for another great story told well.

What other book might you compare The Atopia Chronicles, Book 1 to and why?

Ready Player One, for a good storyline and entertainment

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No but I will be looking for books with this many narrators from here on out.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not extreme, but the childhood narrative was a bit of a hair raiser.
