  • Shooting at Loons

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 17 mins)
    • By Margaret Maron
    • Narrated By C.J. Critt

Populated with colorful, richly drawn characters, Margaret Maron's latest novel captures the flavor of life in rural North Carolina. Arriving in Carteret County, Judge Deborah Knott finds herself in the thick of battles between sport and commercial fishermen and between old and new money. She discovers the body of Andy Bynum, a retired waterman respected by all. With no obvious suspects in the murder, Deborah must find the killer in a place where people shoot at loons, sea turtles, and their neighbors.

    BURMADEANE GEORGE says: "Disappointed Fan"
    "A Rare Good Story"
Where does Shooting at Loons rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I consider Margaret Maron a rare good story teller because she developed her story and characters without resorting to bad language, sleezy characters or sexually explicit scenes. This was my first Deborah Knott and first Margaret Maron and I became an addicted fan immediately. A carefully developed story about an interesting character with enough slowly increasing tension leaves a very satisfied reader or listener.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I immediately became interested in the main character, Deborah Knott. She is the narrator and comes across as a very believable character and as a person in real life I would like to know.

Which character – as performed by C.J. Critt – was your favorite?

C J Critt does a very good job of giving the different characters unique voices.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this series and Margaret Maron to any devotee of mystery stories

  • Poppy Done to Death: An Aurora Teagarden Mystery, Book 8

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Charlaine Harris
    • Narrated By Therese Plummer

Best-selling author and Sookie Stackhouse creator Charlaine Harris crafts the eighth riveting tale starring Aurora "Roe" Teagarden. Roe's stepsister-in-law Poppy has achieved social distinction - she's been elected into the Uppity Women Book Club. Unfortunately, membership has its deadly consequences.

Liz says: "Aurora Teagarden is Delightful"
    "Aurora Reigns"

I love the aurora Teagarden series. This final story is my second favorite, A Bone to Pick my first. I quickly become invested in the character Aurora and Therese Plummer is my favorite narrator..

Aurora is a modern day woman while maintaining her feminity. Her journey through the series includes clever mysteries and personal growth

Would you try another book from Gemma Halliday and/or Caroline Shaffer?

I love the high heels series. Mystery with a sense of humor.

What other book might you compare Spying in High Heels to and why?

It's not the level of Stephanie Plum by Janet Evanovich's but it is similar in tone and story line.

What three words best describe Caroline Shaffer’s voice?

    Calm mid-tone.

    Any additional comments?

I love mystery stories and those that include humor are my favorites
