I would only recommend this book to a friend if they read the first 3 books, this is not a good stand alone novel

One thing that author followed suit with in this book is killing characters at unexpected times in unexpected ways. This author has a real knack for doing that, for better or worse. Personally, I like being kept on my toes....

He did ok with the first 3 books, then all of a sudden he started pronouncing characters names differently then he did in the previous 3, and gave them different voices as well (for no good reason that I could see). You would think if a narrator is going to narrate a series of books, they would go back and listen to the previous books to try and keep consistent. Very disappointed with his narration for this one, but the first 3 he did a good job

It soon will be. With the popularity of "Game of Thrones" on HBO, it should definitely make it past this book to finish the series

I was quite disappointed with this installment of the series. The author started story lines of characters that were not very interesting, and some characters for which I didn't see their relevance in the overall story. The story lines that were followed of characters who were in the previous books were of the more boring character. After reading this and "Dance With Dragons," it feels like they were written by the author simultaneously, and he decided to just talk about certain characters in each book. This was definitely the worse book of the series thus far. I was also very disappointed at the narrators lack of continuity for pronouncing the characters names and keeping their voices the same

How accurate the characters were written. The characters such as Luke, Han, etc., acted how you would expect them to act. I also liked the new characters introduced, such as Talon Card, Mara Jade, and Admiral Thrawn. They were very interesting, deep characters.

You could compare this to the original Star Wars trilogy. I felt this trilogy was a continuation of the original trilogy

Admiral Thrawn. He made him sound cool and calculating.

Before reading this book I was a little apprehensive about a Star Wars book where the main enemy didn't use the force as that is a cornerstone of Star Wars, but I was pleasantly surprised

The book was ok for the first couple hours, but then got really boring as soon as the main character goes to the Arcanum or University. For at least a third of the book, it focused on how the main character paid for University, including how much money he had, and what jobs he did to make money to pay for school. I thought I downloaded an epic fantasy book, but instead got a book on accounting and finance.

Once at the University, the book became very formulaic and it felt like I was reading a Harry Potter knockoff; Boy goes to school and makes enemies of the school bully, boy creates mischief but since he is so talented and the teachers like him he gets away with it, boy is more talented than other students and does things most people his age cant do, etc, etc.

Overall there wasn't really anything ground breaking or that kept my interest. I downloaded the book because it got such high ratings from a large number of readers (listeners). After listening to it, I have to ask......why?

As a huge fan of the KOTOR game for Xbox, I was very interested in reading more about "The Old Republic," however was disappointed when there were no characters from the games in this book. I would warn you not to be fooled by the fact that this is an "Old Republic" story and realize that the only meaning this carries is that the characters are completely detached from the usual Star Wars universe. After initial disappointment, I gave it a thorough listen twice and was not very impressed. I found the story boring at times and the plot rather uninteresting. I didn't even find the characters that interesting as they were cookie cutter jedi and sith, and a lot of the store revolved around droids which I found excruciating. The one positive for the book is that it is well narrated, and carries all of the "Star Wars" sound effects you would expect to hear from the movies.

I must have read the abridged version when I was a teen, because there were a lot of parts in this book I don't remember that I don't think added to the story any. Its I shame, I consider the abridged version one of my favorite books of all time. The narrator for this book is awesome! He really gets into the characters and gives basically acts out every part. If you have 40 hours to kill, i definitely recommend

With Narrators like Stefan Rudnicki, Scott Brick, and Gabrielle De Cuer its hard not to like listening to the stories as they are read with great passion and move along very nicely. This does a good job of filling in time blanks in the other stories of the Enderverse
