Analog Science Fiction & Fact Magazine has provided four edgy stories about heroism, each exploring emotional dimensions uncommon in this or any other genre.

All of the stories in this series are worth the purchase, but "The Cowboy from Wyoming" is one that I will always remember. What a great short about being tolerant of others' differences and not judging by appearance. The narrators are obviously professionally trained, and the sound quality of this program was superb. You can't go wrong with this one.

Thomas McCabe is on his way to a brilliant career as a lawyer when, in 1837, he gives everything up to take a job with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Sent to live with a tribe in the wilds of Missouri, McCabe soon saves the life of a young brave. Subsequently, yet grudgingly, he is accepted by the Cheyenne, until he falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful, and betrothed, Night Bird Woman. Determined to marry her, McCabe must prove himself to the tribe.

I bought this book with low expectations. I couldn't stop listening! More than fiction -- great descriptions of the Cheyenne tribe and a fantastic story overall. Some others have commented on the ending being too sad....personally, I thought it suited the story line and made it more authentic.

America's richest legends come from the frontier - from the land where the events of a single moment might erase the lines between law and lawlessness, between safety and mortal danger, between heroes and villains. The carefully selected stories in this collection are vibrant proof that the great American West is a fertile ground to storytellers. Here's the most varied collection of short stories, by 17 highly acclaimed Western writers.

I just finished listening to this audio book, and it was so good I'm going to purchase the next volume. The writing is crisp, descriptive, and the length of each story is perfect. While the narrators listed are Roseanne Cash & Crystal Gayle, there were other male narrators as well -- excellent narration and recording quality. I highly recommend this collection of shorts.
